    Not sure what to think

We won, so that's something. I guess we won convincingly. Somehow, I'm a little underwhelmed.

Boley looked fine and did some good things. But, to be fair, Calzada, if healthy, would have done well last night, too. EMU is not even a below average football team. They're bad.

Running game was really good, OL protection was good so Boley had plenty of time and a running game he could count on all night. Yeah, he looked pretty good. But, my nagging suspicion is that he'll struggle a lot the next several games as the running game won't pick up 5 and six yards every carry and he's going to have limited time to throw with rushers in his face. Calzada thus far hasn't played well under those circumstances and I'm not confident Boley will, either.

Defense played below their standard. Too many yards, big plays vs, again, a team that is not good. A lot of missed tackles and assignments. If the D plays that way against our next few opponents, they'll score 40+ every game. Unacceptable.

Of course, we bumbled the last few minutes of the half so that EMU could cut the lead to 12. A few penalties that nullified good plays and a couple of snap exchange problems.

All in all, it was a win. But, watching USC, Vandy, TN, GA - I don't see an SEC win unless we play our A+ game at some point. I hope I'm wrong. But, beating EMU didn't move the needle for me.

    I'm probably too cynical.

Same for me. We won, but EMU was just plain awful. So we were... better than awful.

Happy for the win, but I’m strangely underwhelmed too. Eastern Michigan is not a good football team.

They’ll need to put together a clean, complete game in all three phases to have a chance at some SEC wins. Last night it was the defense’s turn to look unfocused, and White was apparently none too pleased.

Here’s hoping they come out inspired after the bye.

As others stated liked the win but it was against a winless EMU. After watching the other SEC teams play today don't see an SEC win. With USCjr's QB getting hurt there an outside chance could win against them but really doubt it. Amazed what Vandy's coach has done there so can't see UK beating them ether.

The good news is we have two weeks to get ready for So. Car. The bad news is Stoops teams historically seem to be lackadaisical and unprepared coming off a bye week.

Does seem to be a pattern, sadly

Well....this bunch hasn't really pulled together so maybe the week off won't be the normal disaster.
anyone know what happened to the D yesterday? I had expected better.

After the Bye Week, I fully expect us to look out of sorts, coaching out of sorts, erratic play and such. I think Stoops starts Calzada and not Boley (and it would not matter which started). Running game will be less than average this next game. USC will want to do everything to not go into a 2 game SEC skid or maybe three by the game next week (forgot they play this week).

If the defense couldn't stop EMU, then the offense better be prepared to score 40 to 50 points every week if they expect to win any games in the SEC.

Good news is several young players got to experience some success, especially our QB. Bad news it was against a tomato can. USC is a HUGE game in 2 weeks, perhaps the biggest in Stops career

I read where Sellers took a targeting hit to the head in the 2nd quarter yesterday and left the game. My guess is he'll be cleared before our game in 2 weeks, unless it was a much worse concussion than the article indicated. As much as Beamer enjoys beating UK, it wouldn't surprise me if he holds Sellers out if there's any doubt this week and has him at 100% for us.

I'm guessing the D just played to the level of the competition. They were good enough to win in our first two games against good teams. (the offense and coaching cost us the Ole Miss game) And while the D against EMU wasn't great, it still stopped them when it mattered for the most part. Giving up 10 points within the last two minutes of the first half is pretty inexcusable, but Stoops teams are notorious for doing that. The TD at the end of the game was with all the backups in. That's 17 of their 23 points right there, that were preventable.

I think another two weeks of Boley getting all of the first team reps should hopefully help as well. Assuming he's penciled in as the starter. But even still, I'm willing to give Boley the benefit of the doubt because I look back at the jump Andre Woodson made from his sophomore to Junior season. He went from 1644 yards 6 TD/6 INT to over 3500 Yards 31 TD/7 INT. His leap was remarkable, but it took an entire season of starting and putting in offseason work as the presumed starter to make that leap. Really hope Boley can do something like that for us, even if we have a coaching change. But in this day and age I can't see him staying here if Stoops is gone after this season.

Allowing them to score says one or two.

They couldn't stop them or Stoops doesn't have that killer instinct needed to be a dominant coach.

I think that's part of the issue with Stoops. He's never had that "eye of the Tiger".
