I can't remember who it was, or which game it was, but it was around the time West was playing, but I remember a player getting injured during a TD celebration. Two guys jumped up to chest bump and one came down awkwardly on his leg and blew out a knee. Very unfortunate way to end a season.

That happened to Alexander Montgomery, a very promising WR who had overcome a lot of adversity to get there. It ended not just his season but his career.

He had been regarded as a good prospect already and then was a superstar in Florida’s 8A playoff as a senior. He set a record for receiving yardage in the 8A state championship game and also had 3 TDs, one on a wild one handed grab. He also excelled on defense throughout the playoffs. At Kentucky he’d already played well on the field and looked to have three really good years ahead of him.

I don’t know if that’s the episode you’re thinking of, but I recall that one, and how unfortunate it was. I’ve also wondered if he found his way into coaching.

This reminds me of, either 1958 or 59, UK's victory over UT and Calvin Bird scored all of UK's points in a 20-0 victory. There's a concrete r.r. overpass in Corbin and someone wrote "Bird 20, Tn. 0" on the overpass.

Gonna be awhile before I can join you folks again. Got in a fight with a cast iron tub and it got the better of me. No broken bones but a twisted knee that has me immobilized and probably looking for alternative living arrangements. I'll check in when I get squared away. It's been fun!
