I think it was that game that cemented him as one of my favorites way back then. That was at the time my parents had season tickets with another couple that were close friends of the family. But My dad and his friend Joe would bring me and Joe's sons to a game or two every year since about 1977. Needless to say I recall all of those games being in the bitter cold. Found out later it's because the Moms didn't want to sit out in that weather, but it never deterred me from becoming a lifelong fan and eventually getting my own season tickets upon graduating college. 25 Pete Venable (1978-82)

1979: Pete Venable had a career-high 104 rushing yards, including an 82-yard rushing touchdown, at the time tied for the sixth longest running play in school history, as Kentucky defeated Bowling Green, 20-14. The offense had another career high rushing performance by Chris Jones, running for 134 yards. The special teams contributed as well, with Larry Carter's 60-yard punt return for a touchdown, at the time the 14th-longest punt return in school history.
​​​​​He was suspended from play for the 1982 season for breaking curfew. He wasn't the first player to suffer that fate as earlier a starter had suffered the same punishment from Coach Claiborne.

25 Doc Ferrel, Tackle (1944-Navy-1948)
Richmond, KY (Madison HS)
Ferrell was an all-state tackle at Madison High. Ferrell was a star in basketball too but went on to UK and enrolled in 1944 to play football. After his freshman season, Ferrell joined the Navy and spent 19-months in the service, taking part in the invasion of Okinawa. Upon his discharge, Doc returned to UK where he would be awarded varsity letters in football in 1946, ’47, and ’48. He would play his last three years for Paul “Bear†Bryant on some of the finest squads the Wildcats would ever field.
Doc was a legendary football coach at Prestonsburg who won 48-games against 18-defeats from 1949-1955 His first year record right out of UK was 3-8 but he rebuilt the team around his philosophy and earned the Courier-Journal Coach of the year in 1950. He would finish in the top five for that award an additional two years.

25 Darius West, S (2014-19)

Expected to contribute immediately at UK, Darius suffered a season ending injury before the season started. It was the third injury to the same leg in the span of a few years. He would miss two full seasons during his time in Lexington because of injury.
Some of his best football was played following his recovery from the injuries.
With 10 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery in a loss against Texas A&M in 2018 West compiled the kind of stat line a Kentucky player hadn’t done since 2000.

25 Steve Phillips, WR (1987-1991*)

College-wise, he opted to play football at Kentucky and started his last two years with the Wildcats. Once his final football season ended, Phillips decided to give UK baseball a try.
Phillips was a basketball, football and baseball standout at Fairfield, played football and baseball at the University of Kentucky, and spent five years as a player in the New York Yankees organization.
“I went 4 1/2 years without picking up a bat. I didn’t play any summer ball, nothing,†he said. “When I went and talked to the (UK) baseball coach, he said, ‘You know, tryouts for walk-ons are in the fall. But come back after practice and we’ll have you hit in the cage with the hitting coach and we’ll see.’
“I went in there for like three different sessions. After the fourth one, they gave me a uniform and said, ‘You’re good to go.’ By the time we started our first (Southeastern Conference) weekend against Georgia, I was in the starting lineup. I’m pretty sure the lifting from football was a huge help because I was strong and could hit the ball a long way.â€
After spending his fifth year of eligibility playing baseball and five years with the Yankee organization he spent another decade as a minor league coach.

I can't remember who it was, or which game it was, but it was around the time West was playing, but I remember a player getting injured during a TD celebration. Two guys jumped up to chest bump and one came down awkwardly on his leg and blew out a knee. Very unfortunate way to end a season.25 Darius West, S (2014-19)
