Still stuck on 27! I'll catch up in a little bit.
27 Hal "Bunky" Gruner, Back (1949-1952)
Louisville, KY (duPont Manual HS)
The Red Rocket" #27 was considered one of the greatest all-around athletes in Manual High School history.
He was a first-team All-State football pick in 1948 and 1949, earning All-American honors.
He was also a first-team All-State baseball pick in 1947 and 1948. His senior year, his jersey number "27" was retired.
He was offered 77 athletic scholarships and contract offers from the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburg Pirates upon graduation from high school.
After U of K, he signed with the Boston Red Sox and played in their organization for four years.

Eric Kelly and Willie Gary shared UK’s single-season PBU record of 13.
By 2000 Hal Mumme had started at least one true freshman in the season opener each season at Kentucky.
In 1997, running back Derek Homer and safety Willie Gary started their first games as Wildcats. In ’98, safety David Johnson got the starting call in the opener. In 1999, guard Kip Sixbery started the opener.
In 2000 freshman defensive tackles Jeremy Caudill and Dewayne Robertson and offensive tackle Antonio Hall started every game.

26 Paul Calhoun. DB/P (1982-84)
Louisville, KY (Bishop David HS)
Holds the record for the longest punt in UK history (67 yards) vs Indiana in 1983.
Calhoun’s last pick turned the tide in the Hall of Fame Classic. Trailing 13-0 in the first half, the turnover set up a Marc Logan touchdown to get the Cats within striking distance.

26 Tremayne Martin, (1996-97)

Signed with Kentucky out of high school, but did not meet the requirements to join the team.
1996: Career high 9 tackles at Georgia.
Strong Safety Tremayne Martin (26) and Linebacker Jeff Snedegar (48) stepped into starting roles in 1997.

26 Emery Clark, HB/S (1948-52)
Carlisle, KY (Carlisle HS)
He played halfback and safety as a member of the UK football team from 1948-1952, playing in the Orange and Sugar Bowls, and as a member of the 1951 National Championship team. In the 1952 Cotton Bowl. Emery Clark, Babe Parilli and Ray Correll were named the MVPs of the Cotton Bowl. In 1952 he was one of 12 seniors closing out their football careers at Kentucky.
