I agree, but that has been the case as long as I've been a fan of college football. It also goes both ways, because programs pull offers all the time, especially if there's a coaching change. "Loyalty" is a myth and has been for a long, long time. Gatewood committed to UK under the impression he had a good chance of being the starting QB in a system that complemented his style. Stoops fired Eddie Gran and brought in a guy who wants a different style of QB. Why is Gatewood, or any player for that matter, being disloyal?

Jalen Hurts lost his starting job in the National Championship game a few years ago when he got hurt and Tua came in and took over. Where was the loyalty?

That's partly why I'm glad to see NIL implemented, even if it might be bad for UK. It is and always has been a business arrangement, it's just now the players are getting a piece of the pie.

We have a strange expectation that those with very little power should be hyper loyal to those who make the rules, have all the power, and routinely demonstrate that program/institutional loyalty is situationally disposable.

Watching Gatewood play last year one thought occurred to me, This kid is too slow. Watched several runs of his where he simply wasn’t fast enough to make the corner. Kind of hard to star as a “ dual threat” QB if run run isn’t a threat, and his wasn’t.

I think we'd all like to think everyone's here for love of the blue and white and is committed to their personal loyalties. The salaries are too high for that though.
