I think Stoops clarified this well when he said “what am I supposed to tell my guys?”

I don’t know if it necessarily cost us the game because we still had our chances but I don’t believe we lose without that horrid call. I’m livid over this rule. It’s the worst and it’s got to go.

I honestly feared Lynn Bowden was going to get a targeting call when he went to tackle that Florida defender that intercepted Sawyer’s misthrown pass.

Regardless, UK should have won and did not win. Again.

Probably will be an overcast level of loss at the season's end.

I have no idea how to adjust the way to tackle, but we pay Coaches a lot of money to figure it out.

              1. Ditch the wildcat play
              2. Get Ahmad Wagner the ball
              3. Play to win the game

I'm just now getting in on the conversation, and this has probably been commented on previously, but when is coach Stoops going to realize that Smoke and A.J. need to trade places on the depth chart?

lol.....they certainly did tonight. I'm not sure what Rodriguez has done except ball security to be buried like he has.

biggest question I have for those watching, why did UK quit pressuring the QB when it was apparent our secondary was just too green?

There is no way to coach these kids to change the way they tackle. They've been instructed one way for ten-fifteen years, so the head-down tackling is instinctual.

Seems like the rule in targeting should be about violent/unnecessary hits or something. Plays where you've got defenseless players out there and the defender launches himself or something like that.

As far as I could tell, none of the targeting calls last night--ours or theirs--was like that. They're very subjective judgment calls, and I wonder if the game is moving too fast for the officials at times to make that call.

Agreed. If it’s moving too fast for the officials, it’s moving too fast for the players.

I think that is exactly what the rule was intended to do, but the changes in the wording have caused this confusion. None of the targeting fouls last night were violent or vicious, but they were called as the rule reads and the Officials are instructed. The game is very fast, but speed IMO had nothing to do with the calls.

Watched with my buddy whose Son plays High Shool football. Asked him how they are taught. Head up.
