Votto is earning his money in this series with Pissburgh
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Crazy arms coming out of the pen for the Reds.

After the debacle of last year it's weird to see them run flamethrower after flamethrower out there. Their lack of a true closer will bite them eventually, but they've got three or four guys down there who look like they could be fixtures in the organization for a long time.

It's been a bane of my existence when it comes to the Reds for years that they run average, aging guys out of their bullpen year after year. Even their good teams around 2010/'11 would have guys who'd pitched for seven different teams and who they'd brought off the scrap heap.

These guys are different. There's a lot of electricity when they come into the game.

Having said that, the starting pitching is going to be a work in progress all season and some of those bullpen guys are just going to be shot by the time summer rolls around. But it's at least a good sign for the future.

They do have mostly good young arms in the bullpen. A couple of them have seemed to have improved a lot since last season. Blake Wood and Wandy Peralta were pretty awful for the most part last year. Peralta in particular has been near perfect so far. I didn't see any of the game last night. I did see that Davis only went 4 innings. Apparently no fault of his own with a brusied arm from a batted ball. Still with these starters only going 3 or 4 innings most nights out will catch up to this bullpen.
Votto will be just fine. He has had very slow starts the last couple of seasons. Last year in the last 4 months he was as good as anyone in baseball.
I wouldn't be buying World Series tickets yet for the Reds but they might be more interesting this summer than expected.

Davis squared around to bunt and an inside pitch hit him right near the wrist. It's lucky that it's just a bruise but wouldn't be surprised if he missed a start.

He looked okay. Had a habit that many young pitchers do of being nearly out of an inning and then walking a batter to up his pitch count. The count was high pretty early in the game.

Still has a very live arm. Was getting it up there at 95/96 with solid movement. Looks like a guy who could be in the rotation of even pennant-caliber teams.
