If you put a gun to my head, I guess I am a Cubs fan. I was The Penquin, Andre Dawson, Steve Lake, Jodie Davis, and of course Rhino when I was playing in the streets as a kid. That was when WGN or TBS had baseball on daily and I hung on to every pitch. Now I am MUCH older and baseball has grown tired for me. Just too slow of a game so I don't get into it anymore other than the Division playoffs and World Series. Nothing worse than listening to a baseball game on the radio. Tune in the dial, and there is a LONG pause while waiting for the pitch. I'd rather hear nails on a chalkboard than listen to a radio broadcast. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ........................................"And here comes the 0-2". UGH!!! There is a reason why baseball is no longer the National Pasttime. The NFL has taken over BIG TIME and I couldn't be happier.Isaiah 5:20Comment

Longtime Reds fan. I go back to the early 70's and the Big Red Machine days. They aren't even a shadow of those teams now. This stupid ownership decided to destroy to rebuild. Chances are this will be the third straight season of 90+ losses and good chance they will lose a team record of games which is 101. I see very little hope for them to be back in any sort of contention in the near or even long term. I will be watching from afar from now on and will not invest much time in an organization that doesn't seem to care about winning any longer.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

They have guys on the roster I've never heard of before in my life.
I do like that they have Scooter Gennett. When Gennett was a rookie we watched the Reds and Brewers at GABP. There was a couple in front of us in Brewers colors who cheered anytime Gennett came up. He hit a home run and they went crazy.
Finally I asked them who they were and they said they had been next door neighbors of Gennett's family when he was growing up in Florida. The woman called Gennett's mother as soon as he hit the homer.Comment

The Reds' front office has already put out the warning signals that this will be a dismal season. The announcement was that the pitching staff will be loaded with rookies, which is what you expect with this phase of the rebuilding process.
By the time the pitching gets it's legs under it, the rest of the team will need a new crop of rookies.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I believe the Reds are sincere in their rebuilding efforts - big contracts on guys that won't be around when the team is successful again don't make any sense. And of course, they've given big contracts to guys who spend their time on the DL - Homer Bailey, Devin Mesoraco, etc. I loved Brandon Phillips, but I'm glad the Reds finally got rid of him.
The problem is still that the Reds are a small market team and until some sort of salary cap is instituted to prevent small market teams from losing talent they've cultivated, it's going to be difficult for them to contend.Comment
