^He would probably be more effective than most of them they have.

One of the Reds rookie starting pitchers played a couple of season of college basketball at St. Johns. It is Amir Garret. I believe he was a Lavin recruit.

To start the season the Reds rotation consists of two rookies, one very aptly named Rookie Davis. One 2nd year starter in Finnegan and two has beens in Feldman and Arroyo. If that's not a recipe for disaster then I don't know what is?

What are the options though? I think Arroyo and Feldman were brought in more as leadership to the young guys and less about being world beaters. Whenever he comes off the DL, they'll also have DeSclafani, who has been solid.

I'm not trying to say the Reds are going to be good, but rebuilding takes time.

They don't have any other options because they didn't seek any other options than rookie pitchers. There were viable veteran options available in the winter if they had just opened their pocketbooks a little. Nothing big just a little. If Disco comes back he will help. He's having elbow problems so coming back is far from certain. Just like Bailey is very from certain for ever being a good option again.

I just don't know what the utility of that is if you're the Reds and you don't have any offense. We had a similar situation a few years ago with strong pitching and no offense and it got us sub-500 baseball.

I think this team will be a pretty good offensive team. Just a historically bad pitching team both starting and the pen.

We'll see. Billy Hamilton is dangerous if you can get him on base. Votto is Votto, and Adam Duvall and Eugenio Suarez were pleasant surprises last year. If Schebler, Cozart, and Barnhart can do something, maybe they're dangerous.

Either way, baseball is a beautiful sport and there's not much better than spending an evening at Great American Ball Park. I'll be there a bunch once ticket prices crater.

I've been a Cardinal fan as long as I've been a Kentucky fan, which has been awhile.

Surprising start for the Reds, with taking two of three from the Phillies and the Cardinals. I'm sure it'll drop off in a few weeks, but so far this team looks to have carried some momentum from the second half of last season into this year.

5-2 right now. Same record as last season at this point too. But they do seem better. I think they do have a good starting 8 to put on the field every night. If they can stay healthy that should keep them away from the 100 loss mark. Bullpen has been terrific so far. Seven perfect innings last night. But that's a problem. They only have three good starts in seven games. That has to get better or the bullpen will be toast by June.

Looks like the Reds may have some future stars on this pitching staff if they can hold on to them.

Garrett, Lorenzen, and Reed all look like a different stock than many of the Reds pitchers we've seen in the past. Garrett in particular looks like a superstar if he can stay healthy.

Last night's game was an enjoyable one from start to finish. Offense was clicking, pitching did its job. Price did a particularly good job managing this young pitching staff in the game last night.

                        Hamilton had a great game.

                        Life is good, for now.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I liked Price's out of the box thinking when bringing in Lorenson in the third inning. Game was on the line then and he brings in one of his best from the pen. I like that.

I'm not expecting the Reds to contend for the division this year - I just want to see fun baseball with a team that gets better. So far, I really like what I see.

My Cardinals are off to their usual slow start.
