Kentucky WBB guard Cassidy Rowe announces she is stepping away from program

Three Kentucky women’s basketball players have elected to enter their names into the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, but a fourth announced Saturday a different reason for her decision to leave the program.

Junior guard Cassidy Rowe announced on Instagram she will not be playing her senior season of college basketball at Kentucky. The 5-foot-6 native of Virgie, KY does not plan to enter the transfer portal, as she will instead pursue a career in physical therapy through UK’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

“Wow…I wasn’t expecting this to be a goodbye post,” Rowe wrote. “I wanted nothing more than to play my senior year in a Kentucky uniform, but I know that God has bigger and better plans for me. Sometimes ‘no’ is God’s way of preventing us from greater heartbreak.”

What a grounded, levelheaded young lady. I didn't post this because I know Ms. Rowe. I've never met her or any of her family. Unlike most of the athletes that come to UK, for a variety of reasons, she was one of those that was living a dream, a Ky. girl playing for UK. I tend to follow the Ky. kids more so than the others and I've been impressed with her attitude. I'm sure she would have liked to have had more playing time but instead of pouting and sulking when that didn't happen, she contributed in any way she could. I'm sure she will be very successful in life after basketball. Good luck Cassidy and God bless you.

There's some chatter that Brooks asked her to transfer and she decided that she wants to finish school at UK. If that's the case, Brooks can go, IMO. You've got 15 spots on your team and a kid who has given her all to her home town school. Absolutely no reason she isn't on the team her senior year if she wants to be. He won't find a better fit.

There's some chatter that Brooks asked her to transfer and she decided that she wants to finish school at UK. If that's the case, Brooks can go, IMO. You've got 15 spots on your team and a kid who has given her all to her home town school. Absolutely no reason she isn't on the team her senior year if she wants to be. He won't find a better fit.

A bad look for coach Brooks, if true. I'm skeptical though. Before passing judgement, I'd like to see it in writing from a credible source.

I don't pay much attention to KSR so I'm unfamiliar with the name, but someone named Phoenix Stevens on X put it up that he asked her to transfer. If this person is affiliated with KSR I would imagine there's some inside knowledge there.

I went on KSR's website and didn't see him mentioned as being a staff member. Then I went to his website and it says he's a UK Women's bb beat writer for KSR. Go figure.

Unless he needs another scholly badly, which doesn't seem to be the case, he'd be pretty stupid to do something like that, but who knows?

Agreed. A senior who is from the state, is about to earn her degree, has been around the program a few years, and is willing to quit basketball before she transfers. How do you find a better 15th player than that?

Seems like a fine young woman and a fine family. She's getting married in a few months and is on her way to becoming a physical therapist, I believe.
