I meant Cal knew that Cal messed up by not playing him. But agree on your point as well.Isaiah 5:20Comment

Bam has to have somebody behind him. You have to develop some depth there not only because Bam just wears down with as hard as he plays, but also because there'll be games going forward where he runs into foul trouble. SKJ is the only other option but he's obviously raw.
If we could get the player we saw at TAMU last year then Humphries could be a solid back-up. But his hands have been weird this year. Has a real hard time corralling not only boards but also easy entry passes.
At this point, I'd play SKJ, for developmental reasons, if nothing else.Comment

Mulder and Hawkins are both guys who will be able to really help against UofL.
Louisville is very thin at guard. Have a strange abundance of big guys but not a whole lot in the backcourt behind the starters. You can beat that team if you shoot and run and kind of give the game over to your guards. Baylor ran them to death in the last few minutes of that game.
We'll also need points against Louisville. It won't be a game that ends in the 80s. Might be first one to 70. Their defense is for real; offense is sketchy.Comment

I'd be shocked if it's at all high-scoring.
Not only are these games traditionally ugly and sloppy, but Louisville just doesn't score consistently. Offensive efficiency is in the 30s. Worse three-point shooting team than us. Only one real dynamic scorer in Donovan Mitchell.
They have to lock teams down and get them into slugfests because if we approach our yearly scoring average we will beat them soundly.Comment

I have been known to be convinced of things that turn out to go the exact opposite way.
For instance: I was way out in front of Billy Gillispie being ridiculously good at coaching basketball. Perfect hire for UK at the time really.Comment

The craziest thing about Mychal Mulder is that his dad drives to every game in Rupp. From Canada.Comment

Controversial....Cal has to play Fox, Briscoe and Monk the lion's share of minutes regardless of their productivity for recruiting purposes. Those are the NBA guys in our backcourt. Cal created the monster of having to use players that are only here 6 months and put them on the fast track. Catch 22, IMO.
Mulder is the filler guy we brought in last season in case of injury. He's behind on defense simply because he has never had to play it. And if he was a Sophomore, we would be salivating at the thought of a Junior Mulder torching the nets. But alas. He has the quickness and the athletic ability. And honestly, our half court defense is not all that great from anyone consistently. We cause a lot of damage in speeding up the game, steals and blocked shots. Not saying it won't get better because I think it certainly will if they devote themselves to it. Our defense could actually be devastating.
Mulder needs minutes. Hawkins needs minutes. But I think at the end of the day, Mulder remains the odd man out and we will be hashing over why we lost because we got out shot somewhere down the road.
And next year, when we will need 2-3 Mulders, there won't be one in sight. Timing is everything.
Oh and that UL game.....Will is right. It will be ugly. It's always ugly. UL plays great defense. They suck at offense pretty much but they have what seems like 15 7 footers rotating. I like us in that game much more than the UNC game. But I think we get dominated inside in both.

I have seen that after Saturday. Mostly with Briscoe. But UK fans get too caught up in the moment. Overly emotional, way too myopic when it comes to single games, etc.
Mychal Mulder should not be playing over any of those guys unless it's just spot time.
The question is whether he should be playing over Dominique Hawkins and whether or not you can get him in there alongside Hawkins for short bursts like last night.
Cal loves Hawkins and that's the guy who's zapping those minutes.
I personally like them both but you can't just sit a 40-something percent three-point shooter. I think Cal was trying desperately to find anybody who would guard Saturday. It also didn't help Mulder's cause when Hawkins hit that early three.Comment
