He should play more. Best 3 point shooter on the team. He rebounds. For some reason he's never taken a FT which is odd. Hype him to play serious D and let's see what happens. Dom has a fair game(his assist to TO ratio is crazy), but we need outside shooting badly.

      Took two last year.

But he's just one of those pure jumpshooters who's usually playing in one spot, standing still on offense. Those guys tend to not get fouled.

Does have a penchant for offensive rebounding because of his athleticism.

That might be the thing that balances out his pitiful defense, then. I've never seen a team bobble so many rebounds. A few examples from last night were downright comical: the ball came off the rim at a low angle, landed right between three of our guys, and they all took turns swatting at it until someone from Valpo scooped it up.

Main reason is that everybody wants to run so they're trying to leak out. Guards have been taught to get to the outsides so when the ball comes off they generally don't even get in there and fight for it. They're already out on the break.

That makes sense, but don't you have to account for the rebounding deficiency? Not much point of a fast break if you don't have the ball.

I think they feel like the 4/5, especially Bam, can grab boards and then we can run. Most of our offense has to do with the rebound and then a loooong outlet pass. Then one quick pass ahead. It's kind of what Carolina has usually done under Roy Williams.

Which is why Carolina always has this stable of big guys. They rebound, rip, and then get out into their break. It's by far our best offense. But to do it you have to have those two big guys fighting on the glass to make it work. Our rebounding issue so far has been it's sometimes Bam fighting and everybody else kind of unsure of whether to join in or start heading down court.

And it's another reason we've given up a bunch of those long kick-off rebounds when the other team misses threes. Our guards are already at halfcourt and waiting for a Bam outlet pass when the ball caroms out.

I'm not really sure why Cal is playing Humphries so much. He just doesn't fit in this team's style. And his rebounding can't be it -- if you're talking about guys bobbling rebounds, I've never seen a guy do it as much as him.

Yeah. Bam's not getting it done all on his own right now, though. Active as Gabriel is - and I love what that kid can do - I'd like to see him get a little more involved in defensive rebounding. I know he's built like a broomstick, but he's long and aggressive enough to help. Between him and Bam, I'd think we could seal that issue up by the middle of conference play.

Bam has to have somebody behind him. You have to develop some depth there not only because Bam just wears down with as hard as he plays, but also because there'll be games going forward where he runs into foul trouble. SKJ is the only other option but he's obviously raw.

If we could get the player we saw at TAMU last year then Humphries could be a solid back-up. But his hands have been weird this year. Has a real hard time corralling not only boards but also easy entry passes.

I agree 100%, and yeah, he's the main culprit. It's gonna have to be SKJ and Gabriel helping Bam most of the time, because Humphries just isn't equipped.

Yet another feature of Cal's system that makes it tough on these tweener/project guys: you might develop in the off-season, but the team Cal brings in might be vastly different in terms of style than the last team, and there you are, wondering what in the hell you've gotten yourself into.

It really is the weirdest thing. Needs some good old fashioned county fair greased pig training.

I knew for sure after Mulder's tweet he would be in hot water. Apparantly not. Cal knows he screwed up vs UCLA.

Mulder and Hawkins are both guys who will be able to really help against UofL.

Louisville is very thin at guard. Have a strange abundance of big guys but not a whole lot in the backcourt behind the starters. You can beat that team if you shoot and run and kind of give the game over to your guards. Baylor ran them to death in the last few minutes of that game.

We'll also need points against Louisville. It won't be a game that ends in the 80s. Might be first one to 70. Their defense is for real; offense is sketchy.
