Louisville caught the break of all breaks here.

First if he would've connected with that guy--which he clearly meant to do--and a melee ensued, it could've been a Cincinnati/Xavier situation and Harrell could have been suspended for quite a few games. The glancing blow should (and I think will) get him just one game.

And the fact that Cal State Northridge is on the schedule this week is almost ludicrously fortunate. If they had to roll into the Kentucky game without Harrell and with that motley crew of frontcourt players they have, Kentucky would name the score against them.

I'll take up a little for UofL and Pitino here.

This is the same thing that caused the Indiana/Kentucky series to end. Some in the Louisville media were saying that the fans behind UofL's bench were on Pitino from well before the game all the way through, and it was vicious.

A couple of weeks ago somebody showed a video of UConn fans standing outside and greeting another team when they showed up for a game with brutal profanities and verbal abuse.

Fans are becoming crazy. Nobody can just watch a game anymore. I understand getting into it in the stands, but so many people want to insert themselves into the game and just become outrageously abusive simply because they know they're protected by the anonymity of the crowd around them.

I didn't blame Cal and UK for not wanting to go back to IU and subject themselves to the stuff they had to when we were there last, and I would imagine UofL caught a lot of that yesterday.

(Having said that, there was a backstory to that game yesterday. Western fans were still upset that UofL backed out of a previous game on them. Still, fans these days are becoming intolerable and when people like Dick Vitale start to rail about coaches canceling series, he shouldn't blame the coaches. The fans deserve a lot of the blame.)

won't get any argument out of me.....but the backlash from the media over Cal not wanting to go back to IU is brutal...will Pitino recieve the same backlash...probably not.....

I'm with Will and I don't blame Pitino. I don't understand why fans have to gain their own self worth through a game played by kids. Just a tad of perspective could go a really long way.

UL is dumb to schedule a game at WKU. They are in a no win situation by going there. That's the reason UK will never go there or anywhere else in the state except Louisville. It looked like Harrel hit the guy with his elbow to me. All he will get is one game and that will be against Cal State Northridge.
          Kentucky fan since 1971.

As I previously stated, it makes no difference whether he plays or not.

Whether he plays or not in our game was never in question. The suspension if there is one will only be for a game.

But if for some flukish reason he didn't, then that's a huge deal. With him they're going to keep this game close. Without him we could have beaten them by 20+.

Louisville's legit. We've put up some gaudy stats so far, but so have they. The announcers pointed out yesterday that they've only trailed for 6 minutes the entire season. This is our first road game, UofL is playing with a crapload of revenge factor...Kentucky is going to win, but this game will be tough at their place. Would be surprised to see Kentucky beat them by double digits.

I'd rather he'd play, even if it meant only winning by one point, rather than having him not play and win by 20 or more.

When UL scheduled the games with WKU, didn't Pitino mention something about playing in state schools that other schools wouldn't? Not trying to start a rumor here, but If I remember correctly, that's why the series was started.

We had some games with Western in years past. Long long ago in a galaxy far far away I remember a guy named McDaniel. Ah well...anyway...what Will stated was absolutely correct. Fan behavior has reached ridiculous levels. It seems we want to find some way to rival soccer fans. I know we all play up how we 'hate' each other, but folks, somebody remind these guys at the end of the day it's a buncha kids that are mainly NOT from around here. It amazes me that there's really any rivalry between the players at all. (truth be told, it's the fan base that has the rivalry).

When it gets to the point that things get dangerous or ridiculously obscene....yeah, it's time to pull the plug for a while. Till grown ups take over anyway.

And as far as coaches complaining about fan obscenity.....well, there's the (in)famous Calipari '...you're a selfish mother....er' and I remember a lot of UK fans complaining about the language their then coach Pitino used to the players on the bench.

It all comes home to roost.

                      "You're an effing Mexican Idiot!!!!"

                      Who said that phrase?

If these are kids as some above argue, then why is ok for celebrity coaches to speak to/at them as though they can't express it any other way?

I'm not talking about the fans' behavior, but Bill's Point is a separate yet germane discussion about yet another hypocritical tradition in "amateur" athletics. Love it.

I don't think they are really stupid but they are prone to make excuses and to tell actual lies when things don't go their way. I think we will win on Saturday and the game may get ugly but our basketball players can handle it. They have far more class than our in state rival.

I'll go ahead and say it....if Pitino had any class he'd sit Harrell down for the Kentucky game, but we know he has lacked class for a good decade now. It seems the entire UL athletic program lacks class since Jurich has been there imo

Here are some of the type comments I am seeing from these dimwits. UofL will win by double digits unless the refs start calling phantom fouls on them in warm ups. UofL is way too talented to lose this game, unless the refs hand it to the Cats. Kentucky doesn't have anyone that can handle Harrell. The only way they can stop him is to pay the refs to foul him out. Does anyone else pick up on the theme here?

I would really like to know what rock these people live under. UofL may win but it won't be because they beat UK. It would be because UK beat UK.

I wouldn't want Harrell to sit out this game. It's a no win situation if he sits out.
