Of course Willis messed up big time, and Cal should and will discipline him as a player on his team. But, I wonder how his parents are handling this. Willis is still underage, and unless his buddies abandoned him, he was by himself and a long way from Lexington or Bullitt County.

I wouldn't care about half of his senior year. I'd care more about his life. Can't go easy on this kind of behavior. It's not only embarrassing, it could have been life ending. Half a season seems about right to me, but it likely won't happen.

I agree with you, on all points.

While I don't disagree with your point, I wonder if it's Coach Cal's job to make life changing decisions for his players. Seems to me that's a kids parents responsibility first, and maybe a counselor next. Putting a Coach in that position is kinda like irresponsible parents expecting a kids teachers to raise their kids for them.

While just how much responsibility Cal has for providing guidance to the young men playing for him is debatable, one thing's certain, there has to be discipline. If the punishment doesn't fit the crime, the other players take note, and begin doing their own thing, in my opinion.

So very true. Discipline has to come from all sides.

This is assuming that harsh punishments like that work.

Cal said in his opening press conference that when stuff like this happens he isn't going to throw the book at players.

It's hard to get into what's "worse" when you hear about stuff like this, but Cal had a ton of crap happen with players at Memphis. He always had the reputation of being lenient.

Unless there's more to this that UK finds there's no way Calipari will suspend Willis for half a season. That's incredibly harsh for a public intoxication charge.

It always irritates me when people state that a person, who happens to be a public figure, should receive a certain punishment for doing something. I can imagine one of them being in a jury room and requesting to pass a note to the judge, asking if they could hand out the death penalty for a person accused of petty theft.
