Maybe talk to those guys about coming back and improving their stock; give themselves a better chance of a higher draft spot next year?
Maybe Briscoe, but would it help Skal's stock?

Let's say he stays and repeats this year's bust. All of a sudden, you've got an Alex Poythress lottery-to-not-drafted-at-all situation and Cal can't afford that with the way he recruits.

Really.....Saw this all over social media today......some of them have about as much chance of getting into the NBA right now as I do

      just a joke

no seriously....the only 2 that should even think about the NBA is Murray and Ulis and maybe Skal

Well maybe all college teams will encourage such crap. Absolutely NO WAY scouts can give anyone but the top few any sort of idea where they'll go in the draft if 1000 names are in for evals. That'll do away with the new NBA rule allowing legitimate players to test the waters real quick.

I was making a general reference to the D-League salary. Dakari Johnson talked about how he makes $25k and flies coach from game to game. Skal probably will (ridiculously) get picked in the lottery, but if you wind up in the D-League, the big money isn't here and it's really tough to work your way back out.

This is obviously going to extreme. But if Briscoe, Lee, Matthews , Willis, Hawkins etc can go through one NBA workout and learn what they need to work on and how the process works I don't see how it can be a bad thing. And guys like David and Floreal can one day tell their grandkids how they applied for the NBA draft,

I assume this is some sort of publicity generating exercise.

Everybody dreams of being Vince Papale, they are kids let them dream. How does letting Cliff Hawkins go to a NBA combine and find out where he stacks up hurt anything. These kids owe us nothing let them take their shot.

Speaking of the D-League, I saw, on Twitter, where Russ Smith set a record by scoring 65 points. That should get him another look by the NBA.

Cal's going out of his way to make a mockery of this. It would serve him right if they all left and he's left with Humphery, about six freshman and a bunch of walk on's. Its no wonder many hate Cal. Sometimes I don't much like him either. Obviously in the end only three will probably keep their name in and the others will be back. But in the meantime, IMO, it just makes the entire program and our illustrious leader of it look foolish.

Remember Cal always says it's all about the kids. This is nothing more than a recruiting tool Cal thinks will appeal to future players. IMO.

He did publicly say he likes to "poke the bear (NCAA) a little". I think this is more of that. But I don't really think it looks all that foolish. I imagine by the time all is said and done there are going to be thousands of names get thrown in there, most of which also have no legitimate shot at the NBA. It only looks bad on UK at the moment because they were the first to do it in mass.

And fans wonder why we never get a break from the NCAA.

I don't think poking the bear in this case was warranted. The rule was put in to "help the kids" so Cal shouldn't have a problem with it. But by the way he is doing this he acts like he does. No doubt this rule will get changed next year in some way. The best way to go with all this is the way baseball handles it. If a kid out of high school wants to go pro then let him. But if chooses college then it will be three years before he is eligible to go pro. I think this is the most fair way for all to go about all of this.

Sure it was unwarranted. But Cal likes drawing attention to UK (and himself). I don't think he has a problem with the rule. Just using it as a new way to get some air time.

Totally agree on the 3 year deal. It's pointless to make someone like Simmons even pretend to be a student. Just puts everyone in a bad situation. If they are that set on not going to school it shouldn't be forced. And in the long run everyone except the guilty party suffers. The NCAA looks foolish for ever having him set foot on a college campus. LSU pays the price in having him not finish classes. And Simmons leaves this wake behind as he runs off to grab the $$$$.
