What's hilarious is the guy came back later and finished the game.

I just came here to post that. What a couple of morons for refs. If that doesn't get them kicked out nothing will. I was watching some of this game last night and noticed Adams was doing the game. I thought its only a matter of time before something strange happens. Adams keeps proving me right that he has to be one of the worst officials in the game today.Last edited by KevinHall; 03-08-2016, 09:38 AM.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

Wow. This is very strange as I have never heard of that happening. Why can't it be like it used to be when refs only worried about officiating the game? It is as if they are seeking rock star status or something now. It is getting out of hand. Adams is a terrible ref and I saw where Sirmons was on that crew as well.Isaiah 5:20Comment

Won't hurt my feeling if those two never do a UK game again...
How they are NCAA Division 1 referees is beyond me.Comment

I've always wondered about the authority a ref has. I've seen hundreds of fans tossed from basketball games.
I don't think a ref can actually make a person leave, but what will occasionally happen in high school games is that the ref will call down the superintendent and eject the person that way. I think if they get an administrator of the building in on it they're on solid legal ground.Comment

I was warned by a ref in a High School game once, who sent a cop to tell me to calm down or be escorted out. Turned out, it was another guy threatening him just down from me....we were wearing the same color shirts....Comment

I want to make something perfectly clear, I don't DEFEND officials!!! If, when I come here and explain the rules and why things happen from another view, you want to call it defending, then you are the one with the problem.John 3:3

RULE 2 Officials and Their Duties.
Section 2. Officials’ Authority Art. 1. The officials shall conduct the game in accordance with the official rules and interpretations and employ the mechanics of officiating outlined in the NCAA-approved men’s basketball officiating manuals. Art. 2 No official has the authority to set aside any official rules or approved interpretations. Art. 3. No official shall have authority to set aside or question decisions made by the other official(s) within the limits of their respective outlined duties. Art. 4. One official may assist another by providing additional information related to a made decision. Art. 5. The referee’s decision shall not take precedence over that of the umpire(s) in calling a foul or violation.
Section 3. Elastic Power The referee shall be empowered to make decisions on any issues arising during the official’s jurisdiction that are not specifically covered in the rules.
Section 4. Officials Jurisdiction. Art. 1. The officials shall have the power to make decisions for infractions of rules committed either within or outside the boundary lines from 20 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the game through the referee’s approval of the final score. Art. 2. At least one official shall arrive on the floor 20 minutes before the start of the game. At least one official must remain on the floor once jurisdiction begins and team member(s) are on the court or in the bench area. Art. 3. When all three officials leave the visual confines of the playing area at the end of the game, the officials’ jurisdiction has ended and the score has been approved.
Section 8. Officials’ Duties Related to Conduct The officials shall: Art. 1. Penalize unsportsmanlike conduct by a player, coach, substitute, team attendant or follower. Art. 2. Penalize flagrant acts by any offender. Art. 3. Remove a player from the game who commits his fifth foul. (See Rule 2-9.4.) Art. 4. Notify the coach and then the player when there is a disqualification. Art. 5. Inform the head coach and the official scorer that an ejection for fighting has occurred.
I will continue to research this and post anything else I find.John 3:3

Unless I'm missing something the rule only says that you can "penalize" fans and "make decisions" about the fans.
I'm still highly doubtful the ref has the legal authority to remove somebody from a gym.
I've never been thrown out of a game and can't imagine a situation where that would happen, but I've seen it happen A LOT. Saw it happen just this past season in my son's sixth-grade league. I've always wondered if the person could just stub up and refuse to leave.
This seems to be what the play-by-play guy did in this game.
(My favorite guy-getting-tossed moment was when I played baseball in high school. The ump threw a team's coach out, and instead of leaving the field he sat on top of the flat-roofed dugout Indian-style and watched the rest of the game in stony silence.)Comment
