To eject a fan or in this case and announcer, the official goes to game management and informs them of the problem and who is out of control and needs to be removed. As long as they comply, everything goes on. But if they don't, the official will inform the timer to start the stopwatch, and usually a minute is put on it. If within that time the game manager has not complied, the official can forfeit the game.

I have removed score keepers, and fans.
This is why I am confused about a referees power. 1. Why is the ref listening in on what a radio announcer is saying about the game? 2. I would think that the announcer would be protected under freedom of speech, especially since he is not a player or coach and is doing a show and not directly communicating to the ref. If there were to be any repercussions from what the announcer was saying, I would think it would come later from the powers that be that hired him, who would field any complaints from the public.

Yes, I am amazed that a ref would stick his nose into what an announcer is saying. The only way I think a ref should address an announcer would be if the announcer started yelling at the ref like a drunk fan. But, if he is talking normally, like he would to do his job, he should be free to describe the game, however he sees it in his eyes and the ref should concentrate on the game, not what the radio guy is saying about the action.

I have no idea what brought on the ejection, but an Official has no way to listen to what an announcer says other than just passing by, and then he doesn't have time to pay attention. There must be more to this than I know, and I don't really care why. All I've been trying to do is explain the rules.

I do remember an announcer being ejected years ago, but I don't remember why. It seems like he yelled something directly at the official. IIRC, it was an Evansville Aces game at old Roberts Stadium.

As I understand it Adams wasn't listening to anything. He objected to the radio guy's hand gestures.

I guess that would do it if they were bad enough, but they would have to be really bad for me to do more that talk ti game management about them. I can't remember where the rule is, but there is one about inciting the crowd although I always thought that applied to a Coach. Maybe not.

If the announcer was letting the ref know that he was number one, I can see why he was tossed. Other than that, I would have to see video, to understand what caused the ref to take action. Not a big deal, just curious about why it happened.
