Couple of random notes from the internet this morning:

Kentucky and Texas A&M, if they both win out, will tie for the SEC title, and TAMU will win the tie-breaker. Which means that Kentucky would get the #2 seed and play at 7:00 Friday night. I hate to root against Kentucky for an SEC title, but that 7:00 Friday game would be sweet.

And almost half of the RPI top 20 has a losing record on the road. That's crazy and indicative of A LOT of mediocrity across the board in college basketball this season.

And there is no earthly way we get a 3 seed. We had to win out starting today. 4 is still a possibility but not if we lose Tuesday.

Florida has lost 2 in a row and got thumped by LSU.....they will be fired up Tuesday night

as of right now Joe Lundari says we are still a 4 seed

These people are crazy. Act like you been there before. You beat Kentucky team throttled by injuries and in between years with a full supporting cast. Just can't understand why these teams storm the court like they just won a National Championship. It's a regular season Sec game, get a life...............

For those who thought, and maybe still will, that the walk called on Alex was a bad call, here's what actually happened.

I slowed the film down and watched it several times, some frameXframe. Alex gets the pass from Ulis and as he catches the ball, he establishes his right foot as his pivot. He the lifts that foot, pivots on his left foot and just prior to releasing the ball, puts his right foot down, which caused the walk. IOW, the call was correct. However, what made it look so bad was, the official looked up when Alex shot the ball and Alex was back on the floor before the walk was called. A very late whistle.

I, too, watched it multiple times. Looks like his left foot is established as his pivot foot. It's bang-bang, but doesn't even appear to be a walk at all in real time, which is what the ref had to go by.

            Here it is...

Not sure how it's a walk. If you establish a pivot foot can't you still jump off that foot? How do people shoot jumpshots after establishing a pivot?

On EDIT: It looks like he doesn't actually establish the right foot that I can see, but he does jump off the right foot after pivoting on the left. Not sure that's a walk or not as I don't know the exact rule. Was definitely very close if it was a walk.

Doubt we would've won the game anyway as outplayed as we were in the second half, but it was definitely a big play.

Exactly. It isn't. Both feet are off the floor as Alex possesses the ball, he then PIVOTS on his left foot and lays it in....

It was close, and you're right Will, it had no effect on the outcome.

I'm done with this after this explanation, and I appreciate the opportunity to explain to explain it again under your post. The first foot to touch the floor when control is established is the pivot. The shooter or passer can lift that foot while in control of the ball, but must release the ball prior to that foot retouching the floor. In this case, when Alex controlled the ball with his right hand the first foot to touch the floor was his right. He then pivoted on his left foot, and if you watch closely his right foot retouches prior to release. Whew.

Oddly enough, that made it make sense to me. He can't put his original pivot foot back down after lifting it. So, if he could have only jumped off his left foot he would have been fine. I never understood the rule to that extent. I thought you could put that foot back down and leave from both feet simultaneously. Thanks for the explanation.

I wish you weren't "done" because I would like to ask you...

Wouldn't what you explained just be a "jump stop"?

A player possesses the ball, takes one step, lands on two feet and jumps off of both feet for a shot attempt....

And to think, you were on the officials in the Vandy game like you knew something about what they were doing.

                          Rule 9: Violations and Penalties.

                          Section 5.
Traveling Art. 1. A player shall not travel with the ball.
Art. 2. Traveling occurs when a player holding the ball moves a foot or both feet in any direction in excess of prescribed limits described in this section.
Art. 3. A player who catches the ball with both feet on the playing court may pivot, using either foot. When one foot is lifted, the other is the pivot foot.
Art. 4. A player who catches the ball while moving or ends a dribble may stop and establish a pivot foot as follows: a. When both feet are off the playing court and the player lands: 1. Simultaneously on both feet, either may be the pivot foot; 2. On one foot followed by the other, the first foot to touch shall be the pivot foot; 3. On one foot, the player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on both, in which case neither foot can be the pivot foot. b. When one foot is on the playing court: 1. That foot shall be the pivot foot when the other foot touches in a step; 2. The player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on both, in which case neither foot can then be the pivot foot.
Art. 5. After coming to a stop and establishing the pivot foot: a. The pivot foot may be lifted, but not returned to the playing court, before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal; b. The pivot foot shall not be lifted before the ball is released to start a dribble.
Art. 6. After coming to a stop when neither foot can be the pivot foot: a. One or both feet may be lifted, but may not be returned to the playing court, before the ball is released on a pass or try for goal; b. Neither foot shall be lifted, before the ball is released, to start a dribble.
Art. 7. It is traveling when a player falls to the playing court while holding the ball without maintaining a pivot foot.

That's the entire rule on traveling in the 2016 NCAA Rule Book. You figure it out.

Lol whatever. I don't even care enough to read through that. That official must be the greatest on earth because it sure doesn't look like a typical walk in real time or slo-mo. Also, there are many more folks that claim there is no way thats a walk and also share the opinion that officiating just plain sucks for the.most part in college basketball. Defend your boys all you want but they are not good, and they allow the crowd to make the call just as much as what they see.

And, the fouls called on Poythress, and many other calls made on both teams were atrocious....

And I do appreciate the snarky insults.

And like I said, one more road game left to deal with this crap and I will guarantee that at least the bad officiating will at least be bad on both sides and not just geared towards the road team. So we got that going for us lol

A borderline call didn't affect this game. Bad inside play once again beat Kentucky. You can't win when most of your frontline is a no show. Poythress continues to build on his enigma and Skal just keeps proving he may the most overrated five star player in history. Wherever Kentucky gets beat out in the tournament this will be the main reason. Just a shame to waste great years that Ulis and Murray are having. And speaking of Ulis I think he may be wearing down. Playing as many minutes that he has and going against bigger players every one of those minutes is going to take a toll eventually. His shooting has been off for a few games now and that is the biggest sign that fatigue from a long season may be setting in. We will see. UK has nearly a week off after Saturday's game so maybe that will recharge the batteries a little.
No one is winning on the road this year in college basketball. With UK going to a very tough place to win tomorrow night I expect a similar type game. I hope I'm wrong but I really doubt they win tomorrow night. I'm sure Florida is pointing to this game for a needed win to get into the NCAA's and that's going to make it all the tougher.
                                Kentucky fan since 1971.
