Crazzed, is that you? I saw that he posted a sneakily similar post over at rupp rafters.

I'm curious as to what the rulebook says about what Humphries did. What section, verbage, etc. Lighthouse?

I believe it was "by the book" the right call. Someone who knows better can provide insight. Just hard to believe a ref calls it in that scenario. Especially when he didn't really slam it down that hard.

I believe if a player slams a ball to the floor it's a T....so, whatever. Like I said, all ball slams are not equal.

The rule would have to state that slamming the ball to the floor is always a technical.

It could say that, I have no idea, but I've always thought the reason they called it was when the player is trying to show the opponent up--like taunting. That wasn't taunting.

We see all the time players slamming the ball down hard and grabbing it before it goes up high, and I've personally never seen that called a technical. What Isaac did was tame in comparison.

Incorrect. There is no specific rule about slamming the ball to the floor. It's a judgment call for the refs.

I'd copy and paste the official rule, but I'm on my phone and it's too difficult at the moment.

If it truly is a judgment call, then for the life of me, I can't see why the ref would call a technical. Unless he felt showed up because his hands were reaching for the ball when Isaac tossed it.

A combination of interior injuries and untimely Ulis and Hawkins injuries is killing our seeding. Looking for more from Humphries and hopefully Matthews and Hawkins at this point. Just can't stretch the floor as much, defend the post as well or rebound as easily without Willis and Poythress or Lee fouling out so much.

I think he called it because he was trying to tell Humphries to calm down before the ball was slammed.

Why he was in there trying to tell Humphries to calm down I have no idea.

A ton of respect goes out to these players for rallying around Isaac. Not to mention, Cal saying this in the postgame:

"He was celebrating. He was happy. ... Great kid."

I just want the dang tournaments to get here (except with a healthy team). I'm 100%DONE with road game BS.

I only saw a Vine of the play and I think it was of the replay, so from my angle I couldn't tell that the ref was trying to calm Isaac down.

What a weird sequence of events.

Humphries showed some emotion, I hate losing but love the fire. He will learn from it.

That action was not unsportsmanlike and after speaking to a number of Officals the feeling is you can pass on that call.
