Jamal Murray = Archie Goodwin

Actually neither is accurate in the least.
Never saw Goodwin guard the way Briscoe will guard. And Briscoe is a way worse shooter, as inconsistent as Archie was.
But Briscoe won't try to force things the way Goodwin did. And he's had a positive influence in more games than Goodwin did, mostly because he's a ferocious competitor.
Completely different players.Comment

I thought most of the talk was about the way he (Murray) ducked his head at the start of the year and just went towards the hoop and lost the ball. I think that is what I got from the talk early in the season. He did act a lot like AG when he would just try to head to the basket out of control and try to pick up the foul or make a terrible play. Like Cal said he is making winning plays now.

Archie Goodwin used to drive me nuts.....that was one kid that I wanted to see go to the NBA..which by the way he is doing very well
I don't think neither Briscoe of Murray even closely resemble himComment

He's far and away the most surprising NBA success story of Cal's UK bunch. Blows me away that Archie's managed not just to hang around, but thrive.Comment

If we are comparing anyone to anyone, Goodwin should never be brought up because there's never been a player here like him. Briscoe reminds me of Liggins. You know what you'll get defensively, you know you'll get the effort, and anything on the offensive end is a bonus. Murray reminds me a little of Meeks with the way he can work without the ball in his hands. We ran a play similar to their "circle" (or it might be double fist) where they have a shooter run the baseline. Being that guy running the baseline back and forth trying to get open while your team just passes it around and sets a few screens is pretty draining. You'll rarely see Murray standing around on offense without a purpose.Comment

I tend to like Archie more than most because I thought by the end of the year he was really trying. Yeah, he was crazy on the fast break, his shot had the arch of a rocket launcher, and he took about 5 inexplicable shots a game, but he played hard and I think he really wanted to win. And look, on that team it wasn't like we had many options when Nerlens went down.
Archie was also very young.
Because he was a OAD on a bad team, his career is definitely in the Will Be Forgotten in 20 Years bin, but I don't feel that much disdain for him. He got dealt a bad hand with that team.Comment

I have not read any post in this thread. The Title catches the eye. The comparison is mind boggling. WOW! About the only thing they have in common is that both like to drive the lane and shoot. That's it. Murray drives and throws up a little floater that more often than not misses. Goodwin drove the lane and tried to do some kind of Michael Jordan/And 1 arms flailing mess. Funny thing though is that he hit a lot of those. Murray has settled in a bit now. He's calmed down a lot on those drives. He used to dribble into multiple players and turn it over. He's backing it out now and resetting. It's getting to the point that he's starting to take what the defense gives him. He's also heating up from the perimeter. Archie never settled down. Give Murray all day and twice on Sunday's over Goodwin.Isaiah 5:20Comment

I haven't been on the forum in weeks, but someone stole my thought, sort of. Up until the last 2-3 weeks I was telling my friends that Jamal reminded me of Archie. Murray is way better than Goodwin, but Jamal does have that tendency to play out of control, and end up one step from the hoop with no idea what he's doing next. Fortunately, he's reigned that in. I do think part of this has just been 3 point guards (think....lead dogs) having to learn to play together.Comment

Say what you will about Archie Goodwin ---but his salary at phoenix goes up to about 2.1 mill next year-- it would appear someone in the Suns management sees a good bit in him!!!!!Comment
