If you are a Duke fan, you have to be concerned with what has happened the past two years from the sidelines, he aint' getting it done and blowing leads is becoming normal for Duke basketball...
Don't you just hate it for the Pukes

He went to the final four last year and finished at 35-4. Went to an Elite 8 this year and went 35-3. The year before was also an Elite 8 year at 27-9. Scheyer has won 83% of his games in 4 years. I'll trade them this instant.Comment

We held a "No Dukes" rally at my house last night from 5PM-7PM. It seemed to work. :-)
(I'm NOT trying to make this political. I just thought it was funny).😂 1Comment

I’d take dukes last few years over ours. With that said, I’ve never been sold on Scheyer being the second coming of K. I remember a Duke fan telling me 3 years ago “we’re all living in Scheyers world now” and all I could do was roll my eyes.
he’s done an amazing job of keeping up with dukes brand and using all of their resources, though.👍 1Comment

I don't know who could be the second coming of Coach K. Nobody around here likes the guy but you have to give him respect. To be the man that follows THE man is a tough spot to live. Scheyer has done as well as anybody could.I’d take dukes last few years over ours. With that said, I’ve never been sold on Scheyer being the second coming of K. He probably stepped into the best position one could with following a legend. K just came off a FF and was helping with recruiting. But their fans and media have been hyping him up too much, they did act like he was the next K. He reminds me of early Cal. Does a great job of bringing talent in and getting them to play together. Just not going X and O you to victory.
But I do think KentuckyWild2020 has a point. If those last three years happened at UK, the discussion today would be all that talent with just 1 FF, choke jobs, whatever. But its duke, so they'll get a pat on the back and a see you next year.
Like I said. I'd 100% take those years over ours, but I also know we'd be discussing it to death on how we had all that talent and didn't make the FF.Comment

Well let's all be honest, any coach who can continually grab the best players year and year out will look good on paper regardless. Elite talent will still win a bunch of ball games.
Is it coaching or talent that's winning, is it both??
The one thing that will always irk me about Cal is that almost 50 pro players came through Kentucky in his tenure with one Championship, to me it was a failure, sorry not sorry, have to take advantages of all that at some point. I do think Cal went to the NBA and came back with a different coaching mentality than he had in his UMASS days. He sat on a NBA bench and watched elites plays and self coach themselves in many ways, the pro game is like that. Cal came back to college with the mentality " I get the best players I win" which fully explains his "fight" be tougher mentality he preaches, NBA ruined Cal the coach in my opinion, just let them play through it. May work for pro's no for college kids. Still, he is the master and getting a young player mentally prepared for the next level..
Anyways, Duke is Duke and Scheyer is the poster boy but you put all that talent he gets on most teams with other coaches , they going to win some games too.
I guess I am trying to see what Pope could do if he ever gets that kind of talent. Will he make it work or have 500 subs a game? The downside of having Elite talent is that they are not running through a wall for you and could care less about 1995-1998 Kentucky 10 deep everybody making the sacrifice. Again, with NIL, it's year to year and year to year means for most of these players means stats and resume' for the next big paycheck the following year.. Pope may need to re think the 96 Kentucky theme, not sure if that's going to work. Looks good smells good taste like $$$$👍 1Comment

And I think that's going to be the problem with Pope. Talent wins. Now, you put talent with a coach like Hurley, Knight, Pitino type guys and they're going to win big. Still, I think to say after 4 years with a final four and 2 elite eight appearances that Scheyer is underachieving isn't entirely accurate. If in the next few years, though, he goes out and loses in the first round or flames out in the conference tournament those discussions will be had.Comment

Unless things change with Pope and the program he will never pull the talent Duke is getting yearly which SUCKS so bad. Kentucky should have elite talent yearly. Duke has had the most talent the past 3 seasons and will continue too it seems. Eventually his talent will win a title despite his lack of Coaching ability.Last edited by Tomcats1990; 19 hours ago.Comment

I get it, he's getting it done can't deny that but slowly becoming the next John Calipari of college basketball, Elite talent nothing to really show for at the end of it. Still better than Kentucky so I can't hate. Ultimately I agree, if Pope can't recruit and land the big fish, it is a major problem....
