    Substitution patterns

Pope has got to stop subbing in four guys at a time. It is killing us. Our four subs are all minuses when you look at the +/- stat. Conversely, all of our starters are on the plus side in SEC play.

Our subs aren’t very good and it compounds the situation when you put them in together.

In the Georgia game, we were up 8 (I believe) when he brought in all four subs with Oweh. That’s when things fell apart.

I believe we were up 1 against Auburn when he did the same thing and we fell apart again.

That can’t happen. He needs to stagger the subs.

    Thoughts?

This is where his analytics lose me. That seems to be the reason as to why he does the mass subs. These are D1 college athletes, I think they can handle extended minutes; if not, that is a big issue with the teams overall conditioning. I believe Acuff played every minute of a double OT game and put up big numbers, and somehow was able to play the next game.

My thoughts, I don't think Pope can help himself and this will continue until this season's final game.

There's only one substitution he hasn't tried yet.

Get himself thrown out of the game.

It doesn't help much that we he does brings in a sub he's not very good. Weakest bench I've seen at UK since the 80s. I am not a fan of his analytics approach as well

The bench would be a lot deeper without 3 primary players out.

I think subbing patterns in general are way too over analyzed and criticized in general, but in this case with this team, I agree that it doesn't seem wise to bring in 4 at a time off the bench.

Pope can sub his players anyway he wants, but if he doesn’t right this ship he won't be here long.
IMO, sub patterns are only part of the problem, he is in charge of of the BB program and it's his to keep or lose. I hope he fixes the issues or gets gone before too much damage is done

Substitution patterns are better so far tonight.

Mo had his best game since conference play began. That really helped

My problem with his substitution pattern is that he starts subbing 4 minutes into the game. He doesn't allow players to get into any rythm. And the fact that our bench sucks.

I said it last night, but I'm confused why Jelavic didn't play the last 15 minutes or so of the game (the minutes are my estimate). He had 11 points when he went out and never came back in.

It does sound bad on not playing Jeli another minute. Now I read on either A Sea of Blue or KSR that Mo subbed in for Jeli and proceeded to score 10 points in the time he was on the floor to end the game. Now could that have been Jeli time/points, maybe. One thing we know is Mo generates his own offense with hustle and bull play. Not sure Jeli can do the exact same.

That being said, why not play both Mo and Jeli. 2 of the 3 most productive players of the game. Might as well play all 3 at the same time and sit someone else not having a good game (be it whomever).

Now you're making too much sense!
