I just can't understand not wanting a GM in this day and age of "Pro" Collegate Sports. As a coach you think you want to Coach and not have the headache of dealing with players agents. Yes the coach should have input but leave the paperwork to a GM👍 4Comment

Yeah, I read that KSR article and came away disappointed. There is no reason for UK to lag behind other programs in this era, but the powers that be seem just fine doing it their way and coasting.
I really hoped Pope was a guy who would be willing to adapt and change, but he seems just as stubborn as past coaches. The problem is he doesn't have the history/resume to be this stubborn and set in doing it his way.👍 1Comment

It can be done. Has been done. If UK was sitting right now with 6-7 losses, fan reaction and encouragement would be a lot different. Pitino 1st season was double digit losses. None after that.
We haven't actually had back to seasons with no more than 6 losses since Tubby did it from '03-'05 and many were clamoring to fire him at that point. Pitino/Tubby pulled it off from 95'-98'. You then have to go back to 80'-81' for back to back seasons of no more than 6 losses. It can be done but has never really been the norm since Rupp's glory days. We didn't play as many games most years in those days but Rupp pulled it off an amazing 17 seasons in a row and 33 times in 41 seasons. So if the Rupp years were what you grew up with you do have a point.Comment

Like I thoroughly laid out it has been done but in rare spurts post Rupp. Not saying it can't or won't happen but it has not been the norm in a very long time.Comment

It hasn't been the norm since Pitino left. He did it every year but his first year for obvious reasons. I'm no Pitino fan either. The frauds in Durham are doing it. No reason UK can't.
I do not expect titles every year. I do expect UK to be in the hunt. They haven't been since '19. No FF in 10 years and counting. No title in 14 years and counting.Comment

Actually, it hasn't been the norm since Tubby left.

Pitino left almost 30 years ago and this is false anyway. Pitino lost 7 in '92 and '94. Not that I'm knocking UK era Pitino in any way but your claim was no more than 4-6 loses. Pitino took more than 6 loses in 3 of 8 seasons at Ky. I never suggested it can't be done. I'm just pointing out the fact that it has not truly been the norm in a very long time. Tubby, Pitino and Rupp are the only UK coaches to have pulled off this standard as much as 3 years in a row. Joe B Hall pulled off back to back seasons of this standard twice. Cal, BCG ,and Sutton never achieved back to back seasons of no more than 6 losses.

I think you're splitting hairs there. Pitino had one double digit loss season. Never come close to another one. I'm not even a Pitino fan.

The point I was making was that double digit losses was not normal, now it is. You can make it seem otherwise if you want. Hall went 7 of 8 years with out one. He also went to 3FFs. 5 EEs and took UK to New heights. Innovated conditioning. UK was the program everyone else aspired to be.
Now, they're not selling out arenas on the road. I just want Pope to restore that back you the program. Makes me sad to say this, Coach K stepped away Duke they're still very good .

10 loss seasons is not what I responded to that started this. You said no more than 4-6 losses. That is what I have been responding to and providing facts about.

This wasn't about 10 loss seasons. Did you forget what you actually posted? You really should just own that you misspoke or exaggerated. Ultimately we both want the same thing going forward but I am not whitewashing anything. Everything I have provided is just the facts.
You're right. I'm just tired of UK not being the UK I grew up with. The UK that rarely had more than 4-6 losses a year. That was THE program.
Now, we are mediocre. We are back in the pack. I really like Pope. I really want him to be the one to bring the school back to where it was before.
The Loss to Georgia and Missouri at home we're deflating. No future recruits signed. I'm not seeing a good road ahead right now.Last edited by rupp876; 1 week ago.Comment

I think we're having two different conversations. I was mainly referring to single digit losses. Just threw 4-6 as a general number. It's not usually a good year with that many losses UK wise. Double digit losses are not the standard at UK. I understand what I said, but I think you're just wanting to nitpick. I'm not going to go that road. I'm confident we both want the same thing. UK winning.Comment
