Pope seems to be against the idea of a GM & Barnhart likely will defer to him. It's obvious to most that a GM is needed, but Pope would probably have to be dragged, kicking & screaming, into hiring one.

I just can't understand not wanting a GM in this day and age of "Pro" Collegate Sports. As a coach you think you want to Coach and not have the headache of dealing with players agents. Yes the coach should have input but leave the paperwork to a GM

Yeah, I read that KSR article and came away disappointed. There is no reason for UK to lag behind other programs in this era, but the powers that be seem just fine doing it their way and coasting.

I really hoped Pope was a guy who would be willing to adapt and change, but he seems just as stubborn as past coaches. The problem is he doesn't have the history/resume to be this stubborn and set in doing it his way.

It can be done but has never really been the norm since Rupp's glory days. We didn't play as many games most years in those days but Rupp pulled it off an amazing 17 seasons in a row and 33 times in 41 seasons. So if the Rupp years were what you grew up with you do have a point.
It can be done. Has been done. If UK was sitting right now with 6-7 losses, fan reaction and encouragement would be a lot different. Pitino 1st season was double digit losses. None after that.
