It always seems like the game we're playing is men against boys. The opposition is the men, we are the boys.
Look at Ike. We don't have anyone who can legit body up with and compete with him. Even 7', 250 lb. Moreno looks soft and malnourished compared to him. I was hoping the days of Cal's 6'9", 180 lb teens were over...but apparently that's the (soft) kind of player we're destined to attract. Even the guys like Garrison, Jelavic, etc. who SHOULD supply some muscle really don't.Comment

It just hit me. This team isn't anything. We can't shoot, and we can't physically body up and dominate on the interior. Heck, forget dominate...we can't really compete on the interior! Our bigs are just kinda soft. Period.Comment

My 2 cents is I think Pope can coach. He took a average at best talented team to the sweet 16 with 8 wins against ranked teams. You don't do that if you are a bad coach.

That was a good first year. We all thought the talent would be much better this year. Obviously it is not. Pope's system must have shooters to be successful. This team has next to no shooting.
That is on him. He put this team together. None of us no for certain. But it looks like something is going on behind the scenes. That is also on Pope to fix. If it means dismissing a player or multiple players from the team than so be it.
I don't know if he gets another year or not to fix this mess. Part of me wants him to get another year. Because I was and am a Mark Pope fan.
But part of me thinks it is too big of a risk to give him another year. Apparently he can't recruit the top players. You need a mix of experience and a couple top freshman talent.
I have no issues with recruiting the better players from the state like Johnson and Moreno. But you also need a top 5 player as well.
