UK basketball probably wouldn't need 9 million of the 20.5 to keep on being successful.. The number I'm seeing far as rest of the sec getting in hoops looks to be about 3-4 million.. If that is indeed true then UK needs at least 5-6 million (25-30%) just because we're the #1 team in the conference.. So instead of football getting 10 mil,, it would be 14-15 mil (70-75%).. I'm just not seeing what 4-5 more million really is going to do for the football team.. They're not getting close to the top 9 teams in Fl,, Ga,, LSU,, Al,, Tx,, Tx am,, OK,, Tn,, Au.. That leaves 10th place to get among UK,, Vandy,, USC,, Mo,, Ole Miss,, Miss St,, Ark.. UK should be in better shape already vs Vandy,, Mo,, Ark,, for sure (I'd think).. So that puts UK up fighting with Miss St,, Miss,, USC for 10-13th place.. Is 3-5 million really going to help that much against 3 football schools? Damn,, all that made more sense in my head than seeing it written out.. Maybe I shouldn't of smoked that J earlier.. I'm fine either way with whatever hoops gets as I know it'll be sufficient but I think it should be the most in the sec for basketball in the end.. I still prefer 45%,, lol..

I think we can make up for it through NIL in basketball, but I'm not sure we can make up for it in football. I would have no issue giving basketball a little more money than what other SEC schools are doing, but 30% more is not needed imo.

        Absolutely no issue with this.

Kentucky Football is an afterthought to most UK fans and, definitely, across the sports world.

Growing up, I was barely aware that Kentucky had a football team and I even went to a couple of games when I was a kid.

        Kentucky is a basketball school.

Hell, if I were the SEC, I'd have kicked Kentucky and Vandy out of the SEC. Neither school upholds it's part of the bargain.

I still watch because I'm, apparently, into self flagellation. However, I can't work up the care to actually go to a game and I live in Lexington. I like winning at least some and, no, cupcakes don't count as winning.

Basketball is obviously our best bet for the return on investment.

I don't think from a football perspective, we are guaranteed to be in the SEC in the future. I believe there will be conferences for all sports but football (this is where we would be in the SEC) and then football will move into their own system and, if UK isn't careful, they will be a mid major in football. This is where you have to be careful. All that money pouring into the athletic department is all of a sudden gone.

I just don't think it's as easy as saying "we will always be in the SEC and get this guaranteed money" regardless if he we are 3-9 or 7-5.
Absolutely agree with the 2nd paragraph. While I don't see the SEC kicking UK out in the foreseeable future, I expect the next SEC revenue agreement will pay out more the the top football school. Schools who go 2-20/3-9 will get a reduced share. If that occurs we might choose to leave the SEC and join a less competitive football conference.

If it wasn't for Tim Couch,, not sure if I'd be a football fan now.. I was a basketball fan way before football.. Never had any interest in it up until Couch's freshman year (UK).. Went to a bunch of Couch's high school games and partied with him but college I never watched until then..

I wouldn't allocate any more to football than is necessary to field a minimally viable team that sustains the AD's overall budget. Triple, quadruple every other university's basketball allocation, anything to retake and maintain our seat as college basketball king.

We need to maintain our basketball legacy. And we need to create a football legacy. I will never be okay with being mediocre in either sport! I love football and believe UK can be competitive in that sport under the right circumstances. If Missouri can be relevant in football, UK can be relevant in football! Besides, it is football that moves the needle nationally, not basketball. My competitive nature cannot allow me to just concede the most popular college sport to our SEC brethren. We need to get better!

Kentucky will never have a great football team until we get a coach who comprehends what a quarterback whilst simultaneous knowing something about defense AND is flexible and imaginative enough to take the smaller pool of talent and find ways to use that within the paradigm of SEC Football. Kentucky is NEVER going to be able to go toe to toe with the SEC football powers AND field a talented set of starters/team for a full season.

Stoops (or any coach) wanting to play "smash mouth" football against Bama, Georgia, Auburn, Texas and the rest with half the talent is either insanity or imbecility.

Until we hire that coach, give half the money to Bball and let the Football team be what it is.
