    Poll: Cal in the Rafters

This was a topic I was going to post on Rafters this summer, but I think it will generate some interesting convo over here.

When do you think Cal will go into the rafters? I know the end was rough but the man got multiple FFs, SEC titles, and added a NCAAT. So, I 100% think he will/deserves to go up. I am just not sure when that will happen. It's interesting due to the way it ended and being at a current SEC rival. He will enter this season at 66, and I believe his Ark contract goes through 29 or 30. No way do I see that honor happening while coaching Ark; I would also be shocked if he is still coaching past 2030.

I do think some depends on what he does at Ark. If he somehow manages a big run, I think it pushes the UK honor back more. If he has so/so seasons at Ark, I think a few years removed and he will be back in Lexington. Gun to my head, I am picking 9-10 years. Let him finish up at Ark (personally I don't think he wins anything of worth there), allow for some time to heal wounds and then we can all get back together and act like we always loved one another.

In any case, not before we hang another banner.
Going forward, Christian Laettner volunteers to catch any dildos flung on a basketball court - or anywhere else.

I'd *almost* (not really) take never hanging another banner before letting that bozo hang in the rafters.

He won a title here, won multiple SEC tourneys and regular seasons, and went to multiple Final Fours.

Anybody who argues against his inclusion in the rafters isn't being logical and going strictly off recency bias and emotion.

It took about 15 years to get Smith up there, so I'm guessing Cal will go up sometime around 2035.

You definitely can't deny the success he had the first 7-8 years. I also said 9-10 years.

Eventually, he will be recognized....but probably not before his coaching days are completely over, and maybe even then a few years beyond that.

I said 7-8 years. I think he’s finished coaching at age 70 (he suggested that while here) and then a couple of years for the dust to settle.

He won a title here so he should definitely get the honor of a banner in the rafters. Not sure when but it won't be before he retires from college basketball so.....7-9 years most likely.

Hang it tonight, I don’t care. But don’t let him come in here and own us as a Hawg!

                    A just sentiment.

You can put it up tonight but you’ve got to use the picture of him pushing the dog stroller in any reference to him going forward.

I voted 7-8 years. He deserves it based on those first several years, but the hurt feelings, likely on both sides to some extent, from how it ended are still pretty fresh right now. It’ll probably be a couple of years after he retires and everyone is more able to just remember the good times before it happens.

Seven to eight, when both he and Mitch are retired. We should give people their flowers when they're around to receive them, and regardless of the conclusion, Cal's run from Wall to Fox/Monk were some of our greatest (and some of my most beloved).
