I did have the same thought. It certainly got a segment of people off the fence on him, but we still had two more seasons after it with Cal. I don’t know, interesting to think what the relationship between BBN and Cal would’ve looked like had he gone on another run.

      Gross.

Never know. Maybe we’d have wound up with Hurley? That was the same year he took the UCONN job.

I thought Brey's 2015 team that took us to the wire should have been a number one seed. They'd split with Duke and won the ACC tournament. That team was really good. Finished 32-6. They were by far his best team at ND. The rest of his time there was pretty average.

          Enough said.

My dad said LJ shot too quick or UK would have won. I was 10 and at a church Christmas Party.

That bracket was so messed up. You had the SEC season champ UK as a 4 seed, B10 season champ IU as a 5 seed, and then ACC season champ unc waiting as the 1 seed.

Interesting choice. I thought about this game. Only thing about that year was that Duke was pretty dang powerful. It would've taken an effort to beat them in that next game.

I don't necessarily remember, but it would have been difficult to find a coach who would have NOT done better than Cal from that point until he left. So whoever we hired would have been an upgrade.

1994 Marquette tourney loss. Was my first year on campus and the entire campus was pumped about the tourney. It was deflating.

I did like the 2019 and '20 teams a lot. Still think that 2020 team's win at Florida to end that season was one of the more impressive regular season feats of the Cal era.

                      Then...disaster.

One of the more flukey losses in Pitino's tenure.

I remember Rhodes being flat out awful in that one.

I liked all of the teams. I always do. But you can look at the record from the point UK retained him until he left and you know without a doubt it was poor at best by UK's standards. Not just in wins and losses, but early exits, missed tournaments, the losing season, SEC titles, SEC Tourney flameouts and also struggles against Top25 teams. And then there was the Sharpe fiasco and the decline in his interactions with fans and the media. It wouldn't take much of a coach to have done better than he did.

Yeah after 2019 is when it got pretty bad. I thought the Covid team could have done alright in the tournament. It was going to be hard to maintain the level of success from when he first got here. But, still, you can't lose to every good team you play and blame it on youth and then flame out in the tournament like he did.

I was there. Your Dad was right. LJ came down on the break and tried a RH layup from the left side while we were up 2 with maybe a minute to go. We had been scoring every time down going to Robey. Benson got the luckiest tip I've ever seen to tie the game and go to OT.
