Change the outcome of a game (no E8, FF, Title)

I know this isn’t a new topic, but putting a twist on it with no Elite 8, Final Four, or Title games. As those are the easy answers.

first one for me would be the St. Peter’s game. I don’t care they went on a little run, it was embarrassing to lose to that team as a 2 seed. That region was also wide open.

UAB in 2004. To this day my favorite UK team. Squeaky Johnson can eat one.

Regular season would be Gillispie losing to stupid Gardner-Webb, only because we had tickets to see UK in the Garden and that game knocked them out of that event. Gardner-Webb did bring a surprising number of fans to that thing.

      Definitely interesting!

      For me, 2004 versus UAB.

Sorry Squeaky Johnson, you’re going home!

UAB in 2004 is the obvious answer here.

Kansas State in the S16 with PJ Washington would be behind it, if only because our bracket had completely fallen apart and the F4 was there for the taking.

We were the best team in that 2004 field, though. What a disaster.

            UAB 2004
Kansas State with Shai - I think UK walks to the FF if they win that one.

I’ve never turned a game off and gone to bed quicker than after that KSU loss.

Had a feeling 04 UAB would be popular. I was still a freshman in HS and watched it at a hotel during a hockey trip, so I don’t think it got me like some other losses later on.

My wife was prom coordinator for one of her first years as a teacher so it turned out prom night was the night of the Marquette Elite 8 game in 2003. I had to watch us lose in a Galt House hotel room wearing a tuxedo.

I would be happy to erase that loss to Evansville in Rupp….

I'd rather change the outcome of Cal trying to go to UCLA around 2018 or whenever that was. If we'd have let him go, it would have changed the trajectory of the program.

Agree that it was embarrassing, but I believe it ended up helping us get rid of Cal quicker, so I'm OK with it.

That's a really good call. That game really sucked.

Starting from the back, losing in 1980 as a 1 seed to Duke in the Sweet Sixteen by 1 point hurt Joe B Hall's legacy and would have been a nice run in Macy's senior year.

In 1988, I wish they would have won that sweet 16 with Sutton in Chapman's last year. They were a 2 seed and lost to Villanova.

Tubby lost in the sweet 16 twice in Tayshaun 's Jr and Sr year. In 01, they lost to USC as a 2 seed, which would've set up an Elite 8 matchup with Duke. Then in 02, Team Turmoil would've knocked out #1 see and champion Maryland.

Would've been nice to see the Ulis/Murray team take out Indiana in 2016 too. Same with Reed and crew against Oakland.

I like your 2004 flip the best though.

Now I’m going to have to try to remember which coaches would’ve been available back then.

The obvious would've been Jay Wright, but he wasn't coming here.

Mike Brey was the name I always heard as a candidate Barnhart had targeted for when the time came. Irony being that Brey's career was more off the rails than Cal's by the time the divorce happened.
