I know he definitely said it had been used against him, but I can't remember he specifically blaming it for harming recruiting.

As much as anything was the realization that the elite recruits could go about anywhere and still be OAD .

We lost to Wisconsin because Poythress got injured, allowing Dekker to go wild, we took the air out of the ball, and we tightened up. If it weren't for Andrew Harrison, we wouldn't have beaten Notre Dame in the Elite Eight.
I get what you are saying. Thing is Book at 6-6 should have been able to guard Dekker better than the twins (as they could not guard). Ulis was a great change of pace and IIRC when he played in that game it changed the game dynamic. IIRC too after the game, day after Cal even said he should have played Ulis and Book more that game, especially Ulis. Some of that is just a coach 2nd guessing but I thought it mattered in that game.

I assumed that Wes started funneling guys to K after the Team USA deal, and the Zion class just paid dividends.

We didn't participate in an early season tournament for one of PK's significant birthdays, 2016 season iirc.

Definitely should have played Ulis a little more. Still not sold on Booker in that game, as he was a fairly poor defender. Cal felt like he should go with the twins, because why not? They were already solidified March legends and had led us to 38 straight Ws.

Trey Lyles pulling a defensive no-show hurt in that one more than either one of the twins, if I remember correctly. You couldn't pay me to go back and watch that horror show, so I'm just going off my crappy memory.

Also: if Cal had just forced the ball into Karl every possession like he did down the stretch against Notre Dame, we win that game and the title.

A bunch of little what ifs.

I will tell you the swing factor. The only time I have watched UK games with my sister in law we have lost games we should have won and UK or the coaches seemed to be out of sorts those games. I was at my brothers, his wife and most of her family was there. The JuJu was just too much for UK or CAL to overcome. I did not watch a game with my brother for 2 years after that. No joke on that last statement.

I was at a wedding reception. Everybody was watching it on a big screen they dropped. When Kentucky lost, the party died. People were crying. Fights started on the dance floor.

Not surprisingly, the happy couple was divorced less than two years later.

If you plan your wedding in the state of a Kentucky on Final Four weekend when Kentucky has a stacked roster, you deserve to get divorced.

Oh he definitely made promises. He had to, Duke was kicking his ass and all Cal was getting, was scraps, so he started making promises.

The issue I had, was him making promises with Clutch. They held him to his word, so we had Schaedon Sharp sitting on our bench, using our facilities and refusing to play, then we had Justin Edwards starting over better players.

It’s also why he beat us over the head with BJ Boston and we ended up with the worst season in UK history.

Glad that mess is gone and we have a KY guy that tries to win every game, instead of draft night.

He began to center his whole philosophy on dragging kids out of generational poverty over winning college basketball games. When that paradigm shifted, he began to make empty promises to a really important group of people: us.

Cal really got high on his own supply toward the end.

Succeed and Proceed just turned into "Beat Generational Poverty, and if we succeed a few times a season, cool. I guess."
