College Basketball Adds 1 Regular Season Game

The limit now is 32...which means that some team could theoretically go a weird 41-0 to win the national championship.

I believe Pope wants a 40 game regular season. I could see them maybe going to 35 eventually.

IIRC both he and Cal have talked about a season during the summer. You could do some interesting things with it. Play a quick summer season, not count it toward the regular season record, but give some exemptions for the NCAA Tournament or something.

A lot of possibility out there to kind of re-envision college basketball in the NIL era.

Sounds like a good way to start the regular season with a banged up roster.

There's been a lot of talk recently (especially after Haliburton) about injuries in the sport of basketball. My take has always been to cut out some of this AAU ball. It's wild. Their seasons are endless, they play every weekend, and a lot of times they're playing multiple games a day. And those kids do it for years.

That's too much. It's probably the same reason youth baseball started seeing so many Tommy John situations a few years back.

Parents are nuts about summer ball and these kids. It's a big Fear of Missing Out thing, i.e. the belief if they *don't* play every weekend, they're not going to get those offers.

                  That's what it's all about.

Brandon Bender still owes me $500 for my son's AAU thing with him back in '19. I'm beginning to think I'll never see that cash.

I’m sure if you called him he’d send it right over. I’ve heard nothing but good things about that guy.

I assume this is one additional ooc game, and not related to SEC play (yet)? Would love to see another home/home get set up.

                        I believe it's an OOC.

However I've long believed the SEC would like to expand their season, kind of like how the ACC has done.

Yeah, I would be shocked if we don’t see more SEC games soon. Which I think is a good thing, as some years we’ve seen teams benefit from the unbalanced schedules.

I'm hoping UK adds some great opponents with this extra game

We've cycled through most of college basketball's heaviest hitters over the years, most recently with Gonzaga. And now Purdue with the exhibition this season.

Houston would be a program that would be interesting...but there might be a tight shelf life on that because of Sampson's age.
