My late father-in-law wouldn't get married on a certain day because UK played, IIRC. That was 40 years ago. I'll have to ask my wife the whole story, but I think my mother-in-law (not really a fan at all, whereas her dad was a massive UK fan) was pretty peeved about it.
In the Catholic church they make you do these pre-marriage workshops. We did it over at this retreat center on a day UK was playing, and they wouldn't let me out of the center to listen to the game in my car. They finally let me out, I ran outside and got to hear the last few minutes of the game on the radio. Close call and honestly one of the few games I missed on TV through the late '90s/early 2000s.
