After watching Butler yesterday, i get the since he's elevated his game now that it's tourney time. I assume he's healthier now which plays a big role but I also feel like the light has clicked on, it's go time!!!
This is his 5th Ncaa tournament, kind of been there done that 5 regular seasons, it's all about the big dance.
I am hoping we are finally going to get the best version of Lamont Butler. The talent is there, he does things sometimes that very few can do.
NBA players do this as well, coast through the regular season and take it up another level come playoffs, I hope this is the case for Butler...
I know this much: if Amari Williams spends his week doing anything other than practicing layups and dunks, his priorities are out of whack.
Never seen anything like what we've seen from him in the last two games. He's too dang big to miss that many two-footers.
Pressing.
Even with that, Amari really did a great job yesterday. His defense on Z was great, and more than that I just thought he flat wore Z out. By midway through the second half Z looked like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world than that basketball court.

Oh yeah. I'm not complaining too much about him, because twice now he has affected the game in every possible way outside of scoring.
But if he can do those things AND score? We might keep dancing.
And while we're on the subject of bigs, Brandon Garrison's love of the three-pointer is getting old. He hits them juuuust often enough to convince himself he's a shooter, when I think we'd benefit so much more if he'd focus on those excellent passes to the cutters, and working the glass.
He played a good game but when it came to scoring, don't shoot!!!
I would say just get to the line but with him, still makes me nervous shooting free throws, especially a tight game..
Hopefully he's fine, we need him..
He should at least be able to dunk. And it's not that he can't; he just doesn't. He'll stand right under the basket and flip up some wussy one-handed crap when he could jump straight up and cram it with two hands.

It's maddening.

No matter how bad things may seem, you can always make them worse.

He wouldn't have to press if he'd just dunk the damn basketball.
Look at our best bigs in his mold: Willie Cauley Stein, for example would flush every single ball if he was in an arm's reach from the rim.
I don't think this is going to change in one game, but if I was Pope, I'd have him under the basket dunking over Brandon Garrison 1000 times.

On the flip side, Amari gives so much value to the team because of his passing ability. I said a couple months back that we've never had a big man like him. Never had one who passes like that.
He's shot 19 shots in the two NCAA Tournament games and that's too many. Needs to be at maybe 5 or 6 times a game. His 11 yesterday was too many wasted possessions.

But still, when he's literally right beneath the basket? Guy should be able to dunk those.
