I think he can be a contributor, but it's not gonna be as quickly as Noah or Chandler...

And strangely that's inside out of what most of us felt early on.
If anyone watched Creighton play, number 1 could be Perry in a few years.

Perry would have to bounce around a little bit to get there. Steven Ashworth is about to turn 25 years old.

I met Perry and he's not 6'1", 6' maybe. He can shoot and that's his biggest asset. He can work hard and get stronger, but quickness and speed is way tougher. I really hope he stays here, and I believe he will.

I walked by a number of UK players 6-8 years ago on campus and recognized them. I know my height and there was no way they were what was advertised!

If I recall, Pope was listed at 6'10" when he played here. I don't think he's quite that tall. I remember going to a high school ballgame with a friend of mine who is legitimately 6'7" a year or so after we graduated. One of the players for the rival team was introduced at 6'10" and my buddy was like if he's 6'10" I'm 7 foot.

I think schools exaggerating players heights has been going on for a long time. I don't know what the rationale for this is.

I know the rationale is ' it's hard to beat a team three times' but as others have stated...it has been done. Someimes teams just has another teams number any given year. That said, IF Kentucky plays like they did against Illinois...I like our chances. But being 2/3 match up it's gonna be a fight!

                GO CATS!

Got my daughter really hooked on Kentucky basketball this year to the point when the game is on the wife just vacates because we're both yelling at the TV
Anyway, ne of here favorite players all year has been Chadler and we're both very impressed with his development in the last month or so..can't wait to see how he develops next year....as well as seeing what he can do the rest of this year.

Perry...I maybe wrong here but I think he's just struggling to find his way at the college level. There's no way a kid that scored 5400+ points in HS can't at least have more of an impact than he has to this point. Maybe he's trying to hard, force his game instead of the game coming to him. Maybe he's speeding himself up when he should be slowing himself down. It could also be the bright lights that is Kentucky basketball. The spotlight here can take some getting used to...
                  IMO, he's gonna develop...how long...well that's what he's gotta figure out

Playing at the level and in the state he played at he can.

Because in Kentucky high school basketball, you can get away with being less than six feet as a point guard. You still have to have some preternatural offensive skills to do what he did, but we've seen players like him come through Kentucky in the past: i.e. guys who were too short, too slow, too physically weak to perform at this level their first (or sometimes second and third) season, but they killed it in Kentucky high school basketball.

The list is long for players like that at UK, almost all of them going back before Cal came. Sometimes those guys get it at some point when they get older. But just looking at Perry, at his size and build, I don't see how anyone's surprised that he's found it not easy to acclimate in his freshman year.

Travis Ford 5’9”” Patrick Sparks 6’1” are two that compare in size to Perry. Only time will tell how Perry does.

Both Ford and Sparks (and Farmer) had more of a strong, stocky build. Think that helped them in the strength department.

Perry is very slight, which means he'll have to be a truly lethal offensive player to play here.

It does need to be said though that he *has* helped Kentucky this season. He was all in that last Tennessee win, for instance. He's just not consistent...but a lot of freshmen aren't consistent. He has also been jumped by Chandler, which makes sense given Chandler's athleticism and his size.

If he stays at UK, Perry will have to fight for a spot. As it should be.

To his credit, he was adamant about coming here even when Cal made it clear he thought he should go elsewhere. Swore he'd force Cal to play him.

I'd like to see him succeed here, so I hope he maintains that attitude.

Perry of this season, I believe, has to be inserted 1) when Pope sees a match-up that won't put Perry in very bad defensive position or 2) when Pope had to stick someone in.

I think we saw both and Perry did well, and not as well, in both.

Yes, he'll need to fight for a position. Hopefully his experience will point him to what he needs to do for next season.

I love the fact that Pope had the balls to say, "Illinois will eat Travis Perry alive and we cannot risk that at this time." Sucks for Perry, but, again, so refreshing to know the coach will make decisions based on what's best for the program, and not an individual player.

Forgot about Farmer at 6’0”” Maybe Perry will bulk up as he gets a little older and visits the weight room. Off topic but Grant Nelson for Alabama looks larger than Carr and they are the same height and Nelson only 3 pounds heavier. Amazing how bone structure can make so much difference.
