I wonder if we're seeing a new paradigm, especially with South Carolina winning the women's championship with a massive center. They don't reveal what Cardoso weighs but she's huge. UConn: 7-2 and 280, Purdue: 7-4 and 300, South Carolina: 6-7 and ? I'd guess at least 220. Surround those massive centers with good 3 point shooters and their teams are tough to beat.

Is the way they're officiating the games these days giving the teams with massive centers an advantage? We're definitely not seeing a return to the days of Kareem, Walton, and Hakeem because while being 7' tall they were mobile. These centers aren't really mobile, they get things done with brute force. It seems to reduce the need to find an all-world point guard as Cal had to do in the heyday of the dribble drive. Instead of forcing the opponent to have to help on the driver to open up the three it's get it to the low post and let them bull their way to the basket to do the same thing. As far as I'm concerned it's not that fun to watch. The Purdue game against NC State was just ugly IMHO.

Or, maybe it's just a coincidence......

In college basketball with the way teams are recruiting to play five-out, when you do have a massive center who's got skill it can be an earth-shattering advantage. Simply because that guy going against players who aren't really "centers" is going to win that battle...if the guards can get the game into the sort of grind-out game Purdue and UCONN's guards can almost get it into. Now if you get out and run then those guys have a disadvantage, as the 16 team showed last year against Purdue. But if the game is slowish and methodical and the guards aren't turning it over, the traditional bigs are going to win those types of battles almost every time.

It's an absolute crime that they start the title game at 9:20.

                  What I was thinking...

How ironic, In a game where the big man is pretty much obsolete in the pro's, here we are with the title on the line game of the bigs..

The white guy from UCONN, Spencer, is the toughest darn player you'll see. Complete animal and a total winner.

If you like watching traditional big men go at it this is your game.

Feels like the 1980s up in here.

Entertaining start. I just don’t see a way Purdue can keep up with UConn

Edey has freakish hands. Just crazy how he catches everything thrown at him at his size.

Purdue gonna have to hit threes. UCONN's offense is too methodical and efficient. If you only take one three in a half that won't work against UCONN. Even with Edey down there they aren't winning this game without 7 or 8 threes.
