There are so many reasons (to be closer to home, maybe he knows someone he didn't like playing with will be back, maybe he didn't like playing for Cal, someone has made him a better NIL offer, etc., etc.) that it's hard to say.

Klutch (his representation) was unhappy with his role.

As a little defense of Cal, what did they want the guy's role to be, exactly? He wasn't a basketball player, at least not yet. Athlete, played hard, hit the glass occasionally, but man the guy couldn't play. He was a normal freshman.

But, you know (and this is where the defense of Cal stops), as we've said a million times, when you build the program completely on the back of turning players out as quickly as possible you get weirdness like that. And we've seen it so many times at this point in the last 12 or 13 years that it shouldn't be a surprise--and yet, somehow, it is with players like him.

Apparently they wanted Cal to play him as a big guard.

I'm not sure. We did have several returnees last year, including the NPOY of course, but at this point it's probably 50/50 at best.

I sure hope he returns. Recruiting class or not we can't lose all of the players from this team and be ok next year. This team is starting to feel snakebitten before the NCAA has even concluded.

Not sure playing a guy who can't dribble or shoot at guard would've been a wise strategy.

Where did you hear this? Or is it an assumption?

^ And I'll put in, I like Livingston. His effort is great at times. He plays with that twitchy explosiveness great college players have. He showed flashes of being a really top-shelf player.

But he'll have to hit the portal to realize his potential if the choice is between the NBA and transferring. He could easily be a guy we see next year having a Bryce Hopkins type of year though but you'll have to put him around some skilled dudes.

He might see Justin Edwards as being a guy that beats him out and takes most of the minutes at the 3, which is probably what will happen.

We’re not going to have ten players on scholarship, are we?

The guard stuff has been pretty widely reported throughout the season. Livingston’s “people” have apparently always seen him as a guard — or tried to will that role into existence.

The “100% gone” stuff was from Jack Pilgrim this morning.

If Cal was smart he'd come up with some creative way to entice him back. You see the potential in him.

Cal, not really being smart, will probably let the chips fall and continue on as we've done here recently--by just rolling the ol' dice in the spring and summer.

Oh, I agree. I don’t think this one’s on Cal.
