I see flopping rewarded all the time but SURELY the rule book doesn’t say it’s a foul with no contact. Now I will say if you swing your elbows in what’s ruled to not be “a basketball moveâ€â€”ie just trying to clear space—and make contact above the neck then it’s a flagrant foul.
There may also be a rule book problem in that if they THINK there is a blow to the head and call a foul, they go to the dreaded monitor for 18 minutes. Afterward if there’s deemed no contact they can rule it’s not a flagrant but I’m not sure they can remove the foul call altogether even though they know they blew it. Not sure about that.
But I’m positive that if they know there was no contact live then there’s no foul.
And I didn’t mean to offend you. Just one of my favorite Cousin Eddie lines. I use it every chance I get 😜Comment

No offense taken. Just trying to see what is or isn’t a foul anymore. I also heard a term that I believe was describing the player having the ball and could swing his arms without being penalized if you got in his space. Can’t recall what term was used. I am wanting to say cylinder ?? ThanksLast edited by justford; 02-06-2023, 06:40 PM.Comment

Yeah every player supposedly owns his “cylinder†or “vertical spaceâ€â€”basically the circumference of his body—from the floor to the roof. But when those elbows go swinging it’s virtually always getting outside that space. I saw a game recently too—maybe was a UK game—when a player was basically leaning back while swinging the elbows and I think I heard the same thing you did from the announcers. But you swing elbows and make contact you can pretty well expect the call to go against you. Just hopefully not a flagrant 2 with ejectionComment
