Who would be willing to go through the pain of a new coaching staff?

I've never been a fan of Caliparis method or style, but no one can argue with multiple Final Fours and a title.

JMO,,,, I definitely understand and in a lot of ways applaud success for an individual player, but these flame outs and bizarre strategies have bum fuzzled me....all the way back to the first season and not knowing how to attack a 1-3-1.

Throwing it in slow down against Wisconsin. Losing a 7 point OT lead against UNC. Kansas State. Getting to be a long list of guys that stay on the bench injured or just dont get in....

I dunno. Personally, I'd be happy for him to go elsewhere.
Who we would get to replace him is the big question.
I doubt Jay Wright is interested in hopping into the UK furnace.

Cal isn’t going anywhere and unless Brad Stephens is walking through the door, he is likely the best option.

Thanks to Mitch the only way UK gets a new MBB coach is if Cal decides he wants to try something else. Cal's early years are impressive, the latter ones not so much. It wouldn't bother me at all to see him go.

Anyway it’s a good question we’re all thinking about.

But I’ve got a cop-out response: I don’t care if Cal leaves or stays.

If he stays I hope he has enough talent to overcome obvious coaching blunders. If he leaves then I’ll be fired up to see who the next guy is.

I spend 0% of my day worrying about it simply because I can see the benefits and the pitfalls of both.

I like Cal I really do but he has been mediocre over last 5 years by UK standards.
This has not been a top 5 program over the last 5 years and I could argue they have not been a top 10 program over last 5 years.
The only saving grace is Louisville and Indiana have sucked more.

Same. And it's all up to Cal. The only way he leaves is on his terms, and however long he stays his success will be totally dependent upon him getting enough elite talent to overcome his lacking in other areas, or changing his ways, and there's little hope of the latter happening. He changed everything about the program before last season, except himself.

Injuries did play a small part in what happened, and I don't totally discount that, but what we saw this season is a microcosm of what we've seen nearly every season of the Cal era in varying degrees. The 2012 team was able to overcome everything, mostly just because they had a once in a generation player, and despite Cal doing his best to screw it up. People gloss over the fact that UK was up at halftime 14 and grinded out the entire second half and nearly got beat. Only some huge threes by Teague and great defensive plays by AD and MKG saved that game.

For a couple years now I’ve wanted to see Cal get Wagner and a monster class in here and see if they can drag him across the finish line.

Now I see no reason to believe he even gets Wagner here. If he does it may not be with a monster class. Even if it is he may not bother to watch opponents film because we have better players. He may disallow players from playing to their strengths because they need to show other skills to the scouts. He likely won’t figure anything out during a game if a team has figured us out.

I’ve supported Cal. I’ll be perfectly fine when he moves on.

Also—his blowing off the sideline reporter’s question at halftime and making whatever point he wants to make before walking off is not quite Billy Clyde-like…but he’s kinda looking like a jerk. He’s supposed to be one of very few human beings (according to himself) who can handle the fishbowl of coaching UK. Seems he’s not doing that as well as he used to.

Cal is starting to sound like Nolan Richardsonan at 5he end of his tenure at Arkansas. He really needs to step back and check his ego if he wants to stay here.I have wanted a new coach and new VISION for about 3 years. I don't like the culture he has brought here I also don't like the rigid predictable style of play tolerable to watch when wear winning big,big, not so much.. if I thought he could recapture the magic of his early tenure I would live with it but can anybody on here honestly say they believe that will happen

Yes, I would be okay with the 'pain' of a new coaching staff if it were the right guy. Cal isn't getting it done here and I have little faith it's going to be better next year. And I think if Sharpe leaves (which seems likely) then you'll see the wheels really come off.
