On a related note, I saw where UK has reached out to the player who was neck and neck with Oscar for double doubles this past season. I can't remember his at the moment. I wonder if this means Oscar has already told Cal he's leaving, and it's just not been announced yet?

Don’t get me wrong. When we get a recruit who is top 5 to top 14 (lottery) prospect I want him to fully succeed and I accepted long ago that with Cal that means he’s outta here. But if he comes in and has a disappointing year why does he remain a lottery pick. How does high school and AAU show more than a year against college competition? Tyty showed nice midrange skills before his injuries but the year as a whole didn’t show
that much. And there are much better examples the last decade than him who were still drafted very early. It seems that signing with Cal ensures your draft stock whether you live up to the hype or not.
Because if there’s any chance a player will become a good pro, every NBA team wants to beat the others to the punch. If that means taking the player before he’s ready to produce, so be it. They can all afford it.

And if he doesn’t produce he’ll be out in two years and they’ll draft another kid who will go through the grinder.

          Pretty much.

But he’ll still be richer than us.

They can afford it monitarily but the Kwame Brown type misses hurt their competitiveness for years.

How many Kwame Brown-type misses can you name? Anthony Bennett? Who else?

Im sure there are others here and there, but the type who alter the course of the entire organization? Few and far between.

Don't look now, but North Carolina is absolutely rolling.

I hope we get Fardaws because I can't wait to see how many different ways UK fans can pronounce his name.

Darko something, Shawn or Sean Bradley, Adam Morrison of Gonzaga, some kid out of Washington just 3 or 4 years ago. Many others if someone wanted to hit the internet.

Doesn’t have to be a #1 overall. You’re bad enough to be in the lottery and you miss with your first round pick it hurts.

I’m against it. If he hasn’t had NCAA experience Cal has no expectations for you to produce in the tournament. Kinda goes against one and done methodology but that’s this year’s schtick.

Yeah, but compared to the number of players every year who aren’t busts, it’s probably worth the risk to dip into the “potential” pool. You might land a Giannis. Our own Tyrese Maxey also comes to mind.

It seems like another lifetime when we were pounding North Carolina into submission.
