I'm surprised Payne took the UL job because he would be a prime candidate for a NBA head job. So he will have that to deal with every time he recruits a prime prospect once the NCAA finally acts.

I hope he loses every game, the NCAA crushes them into oblivion and he gets fired.

That's the way I feel although KP has nothing to do with it .......... I hope U6 never wins another athletic contest in any event, at any level from now until the end of time. Other than that the Cards are ok.

I like Kenny Payne. A lot. He was great in his role here. I think he'd be great in the NBA.

But this was a bad hire for Louisville, IMO. But it was clear they couldn't get done what they really wanted to get done because of the shape the program is in.

Why do you think it was a bad hire?

Hiring anybody with no head coaching experience is a risk, sure, but Payne should be able to recruit and build the program back to respectability.

Out of appreciation for his contributions, during the time he was at UK, I wish him success unless he's coaching against us.

Don't know. Just a gut feeling. It's more about his personality, which can be fairly...dry? (He can also be hilarious, as we saw on the bench.)

The problem for Louisville is that there was just so little out there that they could actually reel in. The coaching landscape right now is not great, and it's made more complicated by the fact that UofL is a dumpster fire.

Payne was possibly a good hire for them. In a vacuum, no.

I agree with you.....I really like Kenny Payne but he is not the answer.....

I think it's going to depend on whether U of L gets whacked by the NCAA for U6gate. If U of L gets off light I think KP can recruit. I'm not sure if he's dynamic enough for the Louisville job but I think he could stabilize the program and get it in a good place for the next guy. I kind of see him as a Tom Crean like guy (but less goofy) where he has some success but is pretty underwhelming.

Sorry Catsrock, but I'm afraid I just don't get into the sports hatred thing. I want the Cats to win, but I don't really concern myself with what other teams do or don't do.

I feel he’s likely a very good hire. But they absolutely must give him 4+ years to survive the near future for him to prove it to be so. I disagree with its a cousin of mine. I don’t think he reels in a couple AA’s and a top 8-10 class this summer and has them back on top next year. That would take some massive “NIL” $

Not only do I completely agree with you, I'm disappointed that all UK fans don't.

I know. Each to his own. To me sports would be boring without rivalries. But I do hope you know I was joking witcha.
