Certainly. For those who are too lazy to research many of these summer riots around the country and in the capitol, arrests and convictions were made. I've seen too often people (not you bill) make claims that no one was arrested. When that is revealed to them that there were arrests, then they claim there were no convictions. Then they have to be led to that info as well.

No one wants to research that which may contradict they're already made up minds............
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

The belief that people only protest to make themselves feel good (virtue signaling, as Jload would put it) also needs to be checked. It's cynical, and it undermines good work that a lot of people do for genuine reasons.

What kind of privilege is that Black is capitalized?
Here's a very interesting recent Atlantic article addressing the capitalization/noncapitalization of black and white. No clear answer but a very meaningful discussion.

Black and white are both historically created racial identities—and whatever rule applies to one should apply to the other.

Good find. Thanks for sharing. I hadn't read this one, but I'll do so this afternoon.

I never liked the whole language thing progressives get into with race and sexuality. I get why they do it, but too often it just lets people mock the labels. And it takes discussions like this one way out into the weeds. The whole LGBTQ+ thing was always destined to be lampooned.

There is a reason for it though. Some in my eastern Kentucky family still say “coloreds.”

I've never liked it as a front-end platform. When Democrat politicians and/or activists use this topic as the basis for their entire agenda, it gets in the way of work they could be doing to affect change at institutional levels. That's such a monumental task on its own that picking a fight about capital letters or pronouns, then shifting to something like healthcare or energy reform is only setting yourself up for failure.

I don't dismiss the conversation altogether, though (not saying you do, either). We're plain ol' white guys who have never had to fight to be recognized, so I get why marginalized groups take their labels and definitions so seriously.

Good points all of you. Let me give you my perspective as an African American: I don't feel positive or negatively about kneeling because it is a peaceful protest...there is no "violent act" or "rioting" being committed. I personally stand for the national anthem when I'm at games, but don't begrudge if the person next to me or front of me does not. Also, keep in mind there are black men and women that have served in the military (I personally know some vets) that since Kapernik's explanation of why he kneeled, agree with his stance (they don't find it disrespectful if someone does not stand, that's freedom they fought for)...just wanted to share that perspective in case you didn't know...
