Thanks for asking and for all those who have no idea, it wasn't because they were not getting airtime! One thing for sure, Bilas had no idea.

I didn't see what happened and forgot to DVR the game so I can't go back and look. But around the 5 minute mark into the 2nd half something did happen, causing a the officials to tighten down and prevent whatever from esculating . I can only speak from experience, but I had games like last night. A player doubles a fist, someone says something an official hears which is threatening, and you have no choice. The players know what's going on and last night they behaved. There is a signal officials use to let the others know something happened and they react as a team.

Couldn't you just warn the players and coaches before you completely change your approach to officiating?

I saw Bone and Herro do a lot of talking and Schofield and Washington were having a war. But I don't think anything was getting out of hand to warrant drastically changing the officiating.

For the record, i don't agree with the "overrated" chant but still feel that Cal should have taken the high road on that, people are people are will do what they do, he can't control that. What irked me about that whole situation is that Tennessee was trying to claw it's way back into the game and it felt as if we was just trying to hold on, when will Cal ever learn to keep the foot on the pedal on those kind of games? I just felt like instead of worrying about the crowd, worry about our guys playing hard and coaching them to keep going at them even if we are up by 20, we have to learn to play for 40 or it will come back to bite us which it has already a few games this season......

And, without question, that is the single dumbest chant in sports.

Believe me, the officials are continuously talking to the players, but when something out of the ordinary happens you have to clamp down and let them know you've put up with it long enough. Again, I wish I could say what happened but I don't have the film. Simple trash talking goes on all the time and much more than fans know, but I'm sure the players know and now the coaches know.

Not sure what happened or what was said, but midway in the 2nd half, there were 2 confrontations involving Herro and Bone (?)and
another UK and another UT players up into each other. The Refs ran in to separate the 2 groups and was telling them to cool it.
This was about the time it got called close to the best of my recollection.

I actually think Cal is sometimes pretty sensitive to what people think. Many times during his time at UK he's come out and talked about stuff that's bothered the fanbase.

The odd thing about Cal though is that he sometimes likes sparring with fans. Cal's one of these odd people who sort of needs to have somebody out there pushing against him to get him fired up. Most of us just want to do our business and get home and put our sweatpants on. Cal needs an environment where people are sort of being rattled by stuff he says and does. Seems to get his juices flowing.

But that's really not what was going on Saturday night. I think Saturday night he was probably thinking about that return trip to Knoxville. No reason to make that game any harder than it needs to be by pissing off their players.

While I think that chant is cheap, I highly doubt it made much difference to the UT players. After the whoopin they took Saturday, they are going to do one of two things, fight or give up, and I believe the latter is out of the question.

I understand Coach Cal trying to keep it classy and i respect that but also understand that no matter what he does or what he says he will always be public enemy number one if he's not the one who's coaching your tearm. Every arena every whisper on the road he will always be looked at as a cheater, a con salesman, etc, etc. etc. Whether Cal had asked the crowd to stop or not, the Tennessee crowd or any crowd on the road will never show Kentucky respect, we are the bad guy regardless of what we do because of our winning tradition, our fanbase, etc.

I will just go back to this, really wasn't that mad at Cal for what he done but i felt like he should have been focused on the court not the crowd. Tennessee was trying to crawl back into that game and we started playing tentative not to lose, that's what irked me the most about the whole situation...

On a side note, i do agree with Will, yes Cal is that type of dude that needs that drama to get his juices flowing to bring out the best in him, i am sort of like that in some ways myself. When everything is going smoothe step by step it's too easy and to be honest, boring, a little controversy or road blocks let's you know you are alive if that makes sense. Cal is also very aware of our fanbase and the emotions and it think he plays on that sometimes, it's his weird way and sense of humor of messing with us, no harm no foul, i don't think he means anything of it, i think he just gets a kick out of it.....

Finally, did Cal and Bilas speak the other night after that little twitter controversy with his daughter?

Good point, how do you look a good friend in the eye who's been on top of the world but you are the one responsible for it all to come crumbling down? I still think Tennessee has a great team and the rematch is going to be a all out war and battle for our young team...
