Expected maybe a little more out of EJ Montgomery, but Herro and Richards made up for it.

Montgomery looks like a pure stretch to me. He's a wing in a center's body.

But as we all know with Cal, you've got be willing to play rough in the post. You can't be Skal. It's going to be hard for Montgomery to find his niche simply because of the talent on our front line, but if he'll do dirty work and hit a couple of shots a game he could help at his size. Perfect basketball body and skillset for the 21st century.

I did like how he rebounded out of his area. That's one thing we were missing last year: a guy who could grab boards that didn't come down directly to him. The only semblance we had of that were the few games Vanderbilt was available. Having guys who can attack rebounds this year is going to be one of the most devastating things this team does.

I wonder about Montgomery long-term only because Cal hasn't had a lot of luck with that sort of stretch player in the past few years: Killeya-Jones, Lee, Labissiere, etc. All disappointments.

The good news is that Montgomery probably is more talented than all of those guys.

Thought the uniforms were sorta meh (though I don't mind the black). The warmups the guys on the bench had on were really sharp though.

I don't like black on blue. UK's colors are blue and white. They should just keep it that way.

Anything is better than the checkerboards. They could've gone out there in wife beaters and flip flops and those would've far outshined the checkerboards.

Agree about the checkerboards. I don’t love the color black just as a general clothing preference, but I don’t mind these. If we’re going to do alternate colors, I’d prefer a charcoal gray similar to what the football coaches wear.

Loved the play by Hagens (defense), Herro (all around), Quickley did good as well. Nick looked tons better but lets see it against a little more comp. Overall you can see the talent. I think this will be a hard working team and will be able to make some noise. Will be fun to watch the guys grow over the next 60 days or so. Once we get into the early season workouts and reports from practice i will get more excited. But right now it is fun watching them.
