A somewhat forgotten team is the '93 team. That team was a juggernaut when clicking... kind of a baby version of '96.... I'd like to see them matched up against somebody.

Yes they were. Lost in OT in the Final Four to Michigan. Dale Brown broke his wrist, IIRC, in that game and that was a big key. Also Mashburn fouling out.Kentucky fan since 1971.Comment

With '97 and '93 UK was two injuries away from likely winning two more titles. I think '93 would have had a hard time with that UNC team personally but you never know
Injuries have been quite a huge deal in uk bballb history.👍 1Comment

I think its common to think what the older team could do with present day rules. Reversing that--take the 3pt line away from the 2003 team and I doubt they could hang with '84. I remember major heartbreak when that team and some of Joe B's other teams didn't win it all. He had UK ranked #1 or 2 for much of the 80's and never got his 2nd title.Comment

Speaking of the 84 team, I remember Ed Davender took so long to shoot free throws that during a conference game against Bama the ref had to order him to speed it up while on the line. Ed Davender. Probably the most underrated player in the history of UK basketball.Isaiah 5:20👍 1Comment

Let me add a twist to this one.
What if those two teams traded coaches?
What if the 1984 team, with that outstanding front line and under-utlized guards, was coached by Tubby Smith, who did well at maximizing his guards' abilities and taught his teams to patiently work the ball to their advantages and persist with tight, focused defense throughout?
What if the 2003 team was coached by Joe B. Hall, who was pretty gifted (at times at least) at figuring out an unorthodox, sometimes risky but usually successful way to motivate his players to overcome a tough opponent or situation (benching the starters in 1978, the surprising run his 12 seed final team made in the NCAA tournament, some of those really tight squeakers against some very good SEC tournament opponents)?
Would Joe B. Hall have been more likely to lead that 2003 team past Marquette and perhaps farther?
Would Tubby Smith have handled that Georgetown team and won a national championship in 1984?Comment

Just throwing it out there, we forget how great Sam Bowie was before injury, could do it all, Bowie could handle the ball the way they do it now, unbelievable talent destroyed by health. .👍 1Comment
