I agree that some perspective is needed. We've been to 4 final fours and hung a championship banner in the last 9 years - obviously it won't be good like this forever. But it's hard to overlook the 'what could have beens' with this era.Comment

Based upon how hard you take it when we screw up or lose, I'd hate to have seen you when you were truly invested.
Doesn't seem like "it's meant to be for Kentucky basketball?" HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, you mean the winningest program of all time with the second most championships? Oh, woe is us. It must REALLY suck to be every other college basketball program in America.
I just can't help but look at the 2010 WVU game, 2011 UCONN (with Butler waiting), 2014 UCONN, 2015 Wisconsin, 2016 UNC, and last night and think what if? I know you can't expect to win them all, duh. But, if even one or two of those go differently then I think we look at the Cal era in a totally different light. Doesn't help that during this same time Duke, UNC and UL have won 4 titles and Duke is setup to maybe do it again this year.
UK fans have it really good. But, there have been a whole crap ton of "what could have beens" during this time as well.Comment

If we return a good core the way we did in 2015 then it won't be junk basketball.
If there's a mass departure then we'll have to start with all freshmen again. That's when it gets junk.
I would be surprised if there's a mass departure simply because there isn't a lot of pro talent on this team. But you obviously never know when it comes to UK's players.Comment

No, not saying woe is us at all. I know UK has it pretty darned good.

Roster-wise, this was Cal's second weakest team. I think the Ulis/Murray team would have taken this team and picked them apart on most nights. That team's offense was too good and I don't think this bunch could've scored with them.
But you're liable to never see a parting-of-the-seas in the bracket the way this bunch got again. Kentucky has had some what-might-have-beens, but we've also had to work through grueling brackets every year Cal has been here. This team got all the luck that those teams didn't...and couldn't capitalize.Comment

The mass exodus thing is scary because we don't have a lot coming in. Cal's recruiting misses really put us on a tight rope as far as NBA departures go.Comment

I don't look at John Calipari's tenure at Kentucky as anything other than awesome.Last edited by KCKUKFan; 03-23-2018, 09:32 AM.Comment

Cal knows that, and for all of his "players first" stuff, I think he's privately going to work a little harder in recruiting the guys we have back to Lexington.Comment

I felt nothing with the NIT team because they were a shell by the end. Nerlens' injury was obviously huge, but I also thought their point guard had some major issues. That team just blew apart, and at that point my interest dissolved.
Every other season with Cal I've been 100% invested, because I think our players have given all they had. Yes, there've been some choke-jobs. There have been some epic failures by the coaching staff. There have been games lost because of free throws. We all know about the titles we left out there.
But outside that one season I've thought the players have at least tried, and as a 41-year-old man who watches teenagers play a sport for enjoyment, I'm not going to ask more than that.
I only start getting fire-the-coach frustrated when I think people are stealing money, as happened at the end of Tubby's tenure and throughout most of Gillispie's second year.Comment
