I may be in the minority here, but I take no pleasure in this. Yes, UofL is unquestionably guilty. Yes, their fan base is generally obnoxious. Yes, they show no remorse and little understanding of what has transpired. But, that all having been said, The NCAA is a Draconian Monster. It can turn on anyone at any time.

There are not two schools on THIS planet that I dislike more than Notre Dame and UofL. Yet, their punishments seem extraordinarily harsh, particularly in light of the UNC situation. Others may gloat, but I prefer to lay low and hope the monster just keeps moving away.

I too take no pleasure in any of this. Yes UL is guilty and their leadership was guilty as well, but going through what we went through with our last guilty scandal, I understand how they feel. The guilty should be punished and they have been and probably have more coming, but their new leadership is doing what's necessary to lessen the load for the future. And, personally, I hope they make it all the way back and we have more exciting games.

I agree with SBCatMan and Lighthouse. I take no delight in anyone's misfortune. I can't think of a single person, place or thing that I would revel in their misfortune. At times like this, I'm reminded of the saying that "whatever goes around, comes around". Let's not forget there is still an ongoing FBI investigation involving dozens of college bb programs.

Come on Matt--don't you think every school involved with dirty shoe money is smart enough to have funneled a few dollars to a couple nonathletes and ok'd it through the school president--thereby taking the NCAA and any punishment out of the equation? They give you the blueprint you gotta use it.

I'm not being a smarta--. I'm serious. The NCAA has no jurisdiction in how a school conducts its business.

Actually, I agree with Surveyor. Cheating is cheating no matter how many other schools are doing it. If it turns out that we did something wrong, I think we should be punished.

I hope we're squeaky clean but don't see any sense in concerning oneself with what the NCAA arbitrarily determines is cheating for some and not cheating for others.

You're right, there's no need to be concerned. Especially about something you can't do anything about. As they say, it is what it is.

A few WCN members/posters had a conversation in this thread about the definition of cheating. Unfortunately it's the NCAA who changes the definition with each and every ruling depending on the school involved. As of the UNC fiasco I cannot seem to leave this fact alone. I'm beating the dead horse but I'll never respect them again.

I had wondered about the vast dollar discrepancy in the fines that had been thrown out there.
we really won't know the hard dollar amount until it actually hits, but since Louisville is in a 15 team conference, I would imagine whatever money they received as an NCAA participant would have been divided between 15 and 18 ways ( using the old SEC model of two shares for the participating school, two shares for the league office and a share for each team).
So the number of 15 million may well be correct, but Louisvilles share would only have been a portion of that.

Further fines could be forthcoming from the ACC for monies received in the ACC tourney.....but I doubt it.

The ACC has in two weeks had two final fours, a national basketball title and a second place in the nation football slot voided. I had forgotten one of the years that Notre Dame had voided was the season Alabama dismantled them in the championship game.

Is Notre Dame in the ACC in football?

They were always independent when I was a kid.

They are ACC in basketball. They are still an independent in football but they have working agreement with the ACC to play,I think, five games a season within the conference. They won't fully join any conference in football as long as they have that TV contract with NBC.

They still play as an independent in fb.

Yep, me too....they let complete scumbags run the athletics department, the University and in some ways, the city of Louisville. They are getting everything they deserve.
