Well that's unprecedented. The first time a college basketball championship has been vacated. Many including myself said it would never happen. I think other sports have had championships vacated but not too sure about that either. Also that's as close to the death penalty you can come without getting it. With the FBI charges still looming they may get that yet. I said a few years ago on another version of this board that their time was coming as does any program that appears to skirting the rules and is thumbing their nose at morality. It's only a matter of time. This happened to UK in the 80's. They dodged a big bullet when the LHL article about all that was going on but couldn't dodge it again in the late 80's. UNC's time will come too. Just be patient it will come.
UL is basically gutted now. It's untelling how long it will take to build back. Especially with more stuff on the horizon. I bet the ACC regrets letting them in now.

That's significantly less than the speculated figures floating about. Dan Jockitch was claiming in the millions on his program weeks ago.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I thought it would be much more too considering it was a number of years. I thought these schools received millions especially if they advanced to the Final Four.

A few years ago I would've been gloating pretty hard about this. They are the first program to vacate a title. Just think about that. Talk about hypocrisy. UNC anyone? The NCAA is a joke.

Details of the penalties indicate the money to be paid back will be in a specified amount to the Tar Heel Education Fund.

Got to come up with some new curriculum since the African Studies Program got the ax.

I don't think that counts the money they'll have to pay back from the participation in the NCAA tournaments.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Carolina needs to get some roughing up also. Letting them off like that is ridiculous. they played with ineligible players also.

This is how it it stated in the article posted in this thread. By that it does sound like NCAA tournament money. When you divide up money over 14 teams it reduces your amount considerably.

They have also been hit with scholarship reductions and restrictions on their recruiting while being forced to pay back the money they received from conference revenue sharing as a result of the NCAA tournament wins. That number will be around $600,000, the school said in a press conference on Tuesday.

I agree with many others here, how does NC get by with so much?

Putting things in perspective. Having a sub-par season with freshmen doesn't seem too bad now. Also, the UNC deal is ridiculous.

Very true. This season has at times had me scratching my head but hey, at least Cal has done it the right way even though we have problems on the basketball court, we don't have problems some of these other teams are having off the court....
