^^^He was just about their only choice when the (latest) scandal broke right before a season started. Seems to be fine but may be a true "interim" coach as his ties to Pitino may cost him a shot at the permanent position whether he does well or not.

My son is a senior in high school and being recruited for soccer. UL has contacted him a few times and they have spoken often. I refused to go with him to visit the campus when he went. Told him if he goes there I hope he individually does great, but hope the team loses every game. (He's not considering UL for school)
      Next-level hatred right here.

Your son should schedule a visit to North Carolina. UNC has a good soccer program and, by the end of the weekend, he'll have finished his BA degree.

It helped that he has a lot of other options that we think are better fits for him....if it really came down to him wanting to go to UL (he doesn't, he did not like it at all) then I am not sure how I would really feel.

Never have agreed with the thing where UK fans go "I pull for Louisville because they're a state school." Obviously that's technically true, but I've always found UofL to be more of a Jefferson County school than a state school. Many of their fans don't really identify with the Commonwealth, and when they talk about the mission of the school it's almost always about the city. It's a very self-contained thing.

I've never felt "Kentucky pride" living in Louisville. I've been here seventeen years now. Once I get out of Louisville I immediately feel like I'm back in Kentucky. The differences are stark and I love those differences. My connection to Louisville has always been pretty distant. When I go to Lexington I feel this immediate, strong kinship with the people.

Having said that, I know many great UofL fans who just want to follow their team like we do. I've no problem with that. But I'm always baffled by the "A House Divided" thing you see in Louisville sometimes. That's always been annoying to me. I always want to say: pick a team and go all in.
A number of fans on both sides seem to dislike/hate the other team more than they like their own. I asked a guy at work who Louisville plays this week and he had to look in the paper to find out they had a bye. Ask him who Kentucky plays? He knows who, when, and where. That doesn't make sense to me. People would rather see the other team lose than watch the team they cheer for win.

I have never thought about it much until you said it, but I do kind of feel like an outsider in the city. Almost like I am on vacation or I was relocated here. Anywhere else in the state and I feel right at home. It's almost as if the city is a different state.

Grew up south of Lexington and always felt this way about Louisville - like it really wasn't a part of Kentucky. Have lived in central Tennessee since UK days (long time ago) and Tennesseans have the exact same sentiment, if not more detachment, about Memphis. Not really a part of Tennessee, even though it's by far the largest city.

Maybe its a "biggest city in the state" thing then. Always heard Chicago didn't consider itself part of Illinois and vice versa.

Louisville has had some players such as Unseld I really liked. Denny Crum is a guy I admire kind of like Dale Brown from LSU...lot more likeable retired.

I've had some really good conversation with some Louisville fans, but this latest deal has left some of them with shattered dream syndrome.
I managed to get myself banned from two boards an juuuuuuuuuust about ready to get banned from the R.....s board.

BUT .....there's really a strange disconnect from Louisville to the rest of the state....they seem to think they're an island to themselves and the rest of the state is of no consequence. I agree with the Memphis / state of Tennessee comparison. Seems real similar.

so yeah, I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet if the school straightens up. AND some of the more insane fans find a different past time.

Dale Brown at LSU was the guy UK fans love to hate--I personally like him since he retired- Loved the 95&96 games with them--the second half 31 points down comeback for the win& the 86 point first half the next year!!!!

My hope has always been that we could somehow convince Indiana to allow us to shove Louisville over into their state.

I may hate them less now without Pitino and Jurich. The University itself needs to be an economic engine for a thriving Louisville. Jurich turned it into nothing more than a Potemkin village of athletic venues. Ramsey played along and lined his pockets...and Jurich's, It is shocking how they are not in jail.

I'm not a UL fan at all, but I do hope they get the ship afloat over there and somehow get back to having a good school and sports teams. They must hit a home run when they hire a new president. Then, allow him time to get the right people to move the sports teams forward. I wouldn't surprised if every coach is replaced or leaves, although they seem to have several good guys left.

I only care about football and Men's basketball. I only root for UK. If UL loses in those sports, I am pleased. If I had a kid that played for UL in the two major sports, I would root for them to win every game except against UK. If I had a kid that played for UL for any other sport, I would root for them to win all of their games. As for what has gone on there, they do need to clean up their act. They are a part of my state, after all.

From what I have read about the lease between UL and the city of Louisville for the YUM center, it sounds illegal if the articles are true. It appears that the city is in financial trouble over the facility. I wonder if that will ever produce criminal charges against those involved?

It never bothered me that Pitino took the UL job. But, if the NCAA strips UL of the title, I will always bring it up to UL fans, every chance I get. Did stripper gate negate the championship, already? Pitino has always come off to me as arrogant and pious. Do as I say, not as I do. The rules apply to everyone but me. I do think that he believes he is a victim and that his only sin is that he got caught. If I am not mistqaken, didn't he fire Winston Bennet for womanizing while at Boston?
