I believe they are. At least they were until that 2012 incident when our players got trampled by their fans, and Cal opted to not renew the home-home series.

The poster is correct that the reason for that is the fan behavior...but it was the fans at the arena that particular day.

Well, Jeezus.................. it wasn't such an "imaginative leap" afterall, lol.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

The poster said, "I thought rowdy fans are the reason we're no longer playing them," inferring that it's rowdy fans generally that led to the decision. Which is absurd on its face: we run up against "rowdy fans" every night.

It's not just any rowdy fans. To equate four or five guys on a far-flung, obscure message board laughing about IU's demise to what was happening that day in Bloomington is cray talk.

The reason we don't play them is specifically because of what went on that day.

Not to nit-pick, but that's the reason we won't play them...in their arena. Cal would've returned to the neutral court series.

              Yep.

And now that I re-read the exchange between Matt Dillon and Downes, I see that he may have just been offering up a reason why the game isn't played. I originally thought he was responding to Downes' point about us laughing at them and tying that to rowdy fans.

He may have just been making a statement of fact.

I personally would love to go back to the neutral court thing where half the arena was in blue and the other half in whatever the hell IU calls their version of red. I always loved that game.

I was thinking about that game just the other day when Mike Davis popped up on my TV screen.

The IU game when he ran onto the court at Freedom Hall is to this day the craziest thing I've ever seen on the D1 level. Have seen some surreal stuff in high school games but never anything like that on a stage that big.

But I'm all for burying the hatchet with Davis when he takes on North Carolina this week.

I've never seen a coach willfully sabotage a game like that. If I remember it correctly, it was pretty close with IU 2-3 points behind, then we stretched it out to 7 or 8 after the double T and won by roughly that amount. Mike Davis was such an awful coach. He has to be one of the worst coaches to ever somehow find himself in the NCAA championship game. I remember his last year at IU when it was clear to all that his tenure was coming to an end, he called in sick to a game.

I honestly didn't realize he was still coaching.

Davis, like Crean, is probably more suited to the lower echelons of coaching.

He's taken Texas Southern to three NCAA Tournaments in five years.
