    Impact On Recruiting

Given what's transpired over the past four games, coupled with the very real (in my opinion) possibility that we may lose the final two games, and NSD still nearly three months away, I'd like to hear opinions on how you all think recruiting will be impacted. Do you think we'll lose any of our commits? Also, do you think this will keep us from getting any or all of the uncommitted players we're still recruiting?

IF - and that's a big if - each commit/recruit looks at this team realistically, then the current slide shouldn't affect their opinions of Kentucky. Five wins was about what was expected for this season anyway, and most of the guys who have already picked Kentucky were thinking Kentucky even before we made it to 5 and whatever. Still, we're not looking good right now, and that be very appealing.

At this stage, a 5-7 season is the most likely outcome. If so, it sure can't help recruiting. Between now and NSD I expect to lose a few commits. Even if we were to win another game and get a bowl, you just about always have a few commits change their mind. I suspect the bigger impact, however, will be in our ability to gain additional commits. Seems like the staff had a good chance at a number of higher ranked players. It will be difficult to sign them if we lose the next two games.

Of course you still want to reel in Damian Harris, but I'm crossing every possible digit in hopes that CJ Conrad stays on board. We clearly need a capable tight end.

I agree with both you guys. I imagine this has nixed whatever chance, if any, we had of flipping Nick Conner from Ohio State.

I think you guys still have the Joker mindset. While not optimal, if we were to lose out I believe this would actually help us get a few of the better players we are after as a good case can be made to those players that they can play early and are really needed to help us take that next step. Based on the leap we have made a game changing RB here, a run plugger MLB there, a shutdown corner elsewhere - all would help us make that next step to continuous Bowl viability.

I'll happily defer to you. I was this close to mentioning in my first comment that I don't know enough to speak on the subject, anyway.

I agree. Rich Brooks brought in many talented players when UK football was in the pits because he told them they could compete for a job as freshmen. Realistically, most players who go to Alabama or LSU or Ohio State are going to redshirt and then maybe sit on the bench for another year after that. When your program is average, I think you lose a few good recruits who want to play for a winning program with a chance at a national championship. But you pick up others who want to play early and often, and possible turn around a program.

CS is on a mission, and he will bring in better players than we're used to getting.

I thought I'd throw this out for what it's worth, perhaps something, or perhaps nothing, only time will tell.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in a kid's twittering - of course, that means you have to throw out all the platitudes he said about UK when he was visiting here. I think young Mr. Harris is thoroughly enjoying all the attention - as well he should (I know I would!) - and is making the most of it! If you listen to the so-called "experts", it is pretty much a two-horse race.

UK needs him badly. He might even be the starter here from day 1. He would certainly be in the 2-3 deep at the outset. Who knows?

It all starts in the trenches. Without that, Bo Jackson couldn't make yards. RB's can't even get started.

These coaches have done well recruiting the past two years when we were WORSE. I would think anyone would see that on defense the door is wide open for playing time. The O-line is likely the same way. I would think most kids want that shot.

I'm to the point that I don't follow recruiting that much, no need to worry about what an 18 year old is going to do (got one in my house that changes his mind ever time I asked him)..I just trust in the end we will end up with a good to great recruiting class. that goes for football, basketball, baseball, rifle, volleyball, softball, and the rest. I see guys playing on sunday that went to northeast southern west niceville st. so just because we didn't get the #1 recruit doesn't mean the one we got can't play.
